Brian's Cottage Reviews

We really enjoyed our stay here in lovely autumnal warmth. However, there were two issues. For some reason the understair cupboard had a powerful unpleasant smell. The extractor fan cover in the kitchen was well due a clean. I think previous users had been cooking up fatty food. Letting air flow through the house when we were out sorted one of these issues. In terms of location it is perfect and the view as you step out of the house and look through the farm buildings to the sea is stunning.

Brian's cottage was lovely, it was off the road, quiet, warm clean and comfortable. A lovely welcome gift of teas, coffee and cake was left for us. The heating broke down on the second day after we arrived, which was a Sunday, but Catherine dealt with it really quickly, provided heaters until it could be repaired by her dad Brian the following day. A lovely cottage, would recommend it, my only negative comment would be that the bedding could do with updating. We always strip the beds when we leave a selfcatering house and the duvets were clean, but had some old stains on them. Thanks to Catherine and the family for a lovely stay. .
Great cottage. Everything we needed. Lovely setting. Catherine was on hand if we needed anything but didnt. A lovely place for a relaxing stay
We had a fantastic week in Brian's Cottage, which was well equipped and in a great, quiet location, yet so close to many of the Northumberland attractions. The owners were really friendly and on hand if anything was needed.

Christine
Very comfortable cottage with excellent facilities in a great location.
What a lovely cottage. Warm and cosy for our new year stay with enough space for us and our walking gear. Very well equipped kitchen with a decent oven and plenty of space for us to cook when we wanted to. Close enough to local amenities whilst being quiet and peaceful. We were even lucky with the weather. Highly recommended.
Robert

What a wonderful cottage for our holiday! Warm and welcoming, beautifully furnished and finished, with a lovely welcome from Dorothy and other family members. We enjoyed our stay immensely and would be very happy to return. Highly recommended and thank you!
Very well providedfor.

The cottage was extremely clean, comfortable and well equipped. The hosts were accommodating of our request for extra key etc.

Brians cottage is lovely and comfortable and ideal as a family holiday home we stayed with our daughter, son in law and grandson. Everything we needed was included in the cottage. There are a variety of supermarkets in Alnwick with Aldi, Lidl, Sainsburys and M&S Food plus local food store Turnbulls being on this side of Alnwick. It is central to many places and attractions. Thank you to Dorothy and Brian who made us feel very welcome. Will be returning to stay sometime.
Brians Cottage at Bilton Barns Farm is well located for the Northumbrian coast. Many walks can be joined from the cottage. The local busses stop near the end of the lane. We even caught the train to Edinburgh from the station just a 10min drive from the cottage. The owner and family are all very friendly and we will certainly be staying again. Thanks Dorothy for making us feel very welcome. Paul and Margaret
The cottage was spotless and the central heating excellent, dishwasher and washer dryer in the kitchen along with their instructions which made them easy for us to use. the location was perfect for visiting local places such as Bambrough castle, Alnwick gardens, Holy Island, Seahouses and the Farne islands. will visit again and hopefully next time it will be warmer. shortly after we arrived the owner came along to tell us that she would be on hand in the farmhouse if we required anything.
Christine
We had a lovely week at Brian's cottage. Everything that we needed was there. Friendly welcome and very helpful owners who lived on the farm where the cottages were based. There are 3 cottages and like the idea of booking more than 1 and have friends visiting at the same time. Close to amenities and you must visit Strawberry Lounge at Alnwick which is only about 4 miles away all home made food and the scone selection is amazing. Looking forward to another stay here. Thanks you
Hi We had a great time. Please award a gold star to the Jacksons. Super welcome, very friendly, cottage clean and comfortable. Downstairs toilet would have made it perfect for elderly and disabled. We had a power cut, lasting over 2 days. Dorothy and Brian could not do enough for us candles, torches, even helped out with the cooking. The woodburner was a life saver. But wait for it they wanted us to stay for a further 2 days and we would have but we had appointments a concert in Manchester. So, the extra mile brill. Regards Dave Walker

Absolutely loved our stay at Brian's cottage over the New Year. The cottage was clean and cosy with a beautiful addition of a Christmas tree! The cottage is in a great location to explore Northumberland too we enjoyed trips to Bamburgh Castle & beach, Alnmouth beach and The Old School Gallery, shops and cafes in Alnwick and Warkworth Castle and beach. Would highly recommend a stay here
It was a lovely cottage warm and inviting the owners came and made us welcome. It's in a central position to visit lots of place's as well. Highly recommended visiting this cottage.
Philip
Stayed at Brian's Cottage for the second time and was just as impressed. Love the place and cottage is well equipped and comfortable. Please be aware though that this is on a working farm and at the time we were there Late August there was a lot of activity with farm machines working till late. This was not a problem for us but just to be aware of if you have young light sleepers choose your timing wisely.
We hired this cottage for a weeks holiday and on arrival we were really pleased with both the cottage and the facilities within. Dont think Ive ever been to a rented property with absolutely everything we could need, whilst away from home. Well done to the hosts, who also run a farm at the same time.
The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed. It is in an ideal situation close to the coast and Alnwick. There were 3 supermarkets only 10 minutes away for food shopping and the proximity of the A1 means that that lots of interesting places are within easy reach. The area around the cottage was very peaceful and we heard no noise from the adjoining buildings. The owner was very nice and helpful. We had an excellent holiday and would definitely return.
Excellent location for beaches an Alnwick town centre Very clean and comfortable Good facilities
Joanne
Had a brilliant week staying here as a family. Brilliant hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful area, a perfect location to explore Northumberland. Hopefully be back again in the future! Would definitely recommend staying here.
We were welcomed warmly and really enjoyed our time in Brian's Cottage. Everything was provided, some of the things we brought with us were not needed, so none of the usual having to go to the supermarket to get a utensil or such. Very clean and good quality. We tried the onsite meals which we all enjoyed.
Sylvia
Loved the cottage, everything was excellent, extremely comfortable beds, only thought the duvets were a little past their best.
The owners of the cottage were very nice people. The cottage was clean and warm. Very well equipped and spacious for the family to share. Lovely bed linen and towels provided.
Lovely little cottage, very quiet and peaceful off the beaten track. Quite basic but charming and a lovely open fire.
Charlotte
Lovely hosts who were contactable if needed. Very welcoming. The cottage was the cleanest we have ever stayed in. The beds were really comfy and there was everything we needed in the cottage for our stay. Perfect location to explore the northumberland coastline. We would highly recommend the cottage and we would definately stay again.
Lovely place to be based. Wonderful views from the bedrooms . Friendly place , within the COVID restrictions
Michael
Location excellent. Well positioned for beaches and places to visit. 10 minutes from Alnwick. Cottage has rugged farmhouse style furniture and fittings. Minimal ornaments. This made it perfect for 3 children aged 5 to 11 allowing us to relax and not worry about things getting broken. Cottages are well built as no sound from neighbours. We checked and our kids had not been heard! Beautiful location on farm. Owners friendly and approachable. Garden large and secure for kids. Overall excellent. The score of 7 has nothing to do with this excellent property. It was due to Sykes not offering customers refunds during lockdown. Remember customers are your business without them you do not exist.
The cottage was lovely. The owner popped in to check we had settled in and to check if there was anything we needed or wanted to ask. This was a lovely touch will recommend staying here.
Great place to stay and lovely people running it, would stay again.
Rebecca
It was lovely and we will definitely be going back
Philip
Lovely property with a great garden space. Well equipped and spacious. Really pleasant and helpful owners too.
Pamela
Excellent for the children. Very safe. Clean and comfortable.Lovely garden and extremely close to beautiful beaches.
We had a great week at Brian's cottage. It was very comfortable and was bigger than expected. It was well equipped with all home comforts. It was quiet and peaceful and although it was the middle terrace it was so sturdily built we were not aware of any noise from the neighbours. It was well positioned for sightseeing although it was in a rural location. The big town of Alnwick was nearby with several supermarkets. We would recommend the accommodation and the back bedrooms had a distant sea view. Unfortunately, the weather was not warm enough to sit outside for meals but there was a barbecue and a large table and chairs on the well kept lawn.We were welcomed by the owners daughter when we arrived and she was very helpful. Leaflets about attractions were provided.
