Holly Cottage Reviews

Christopher
Holly Cottage is in a great location to explore Alnwick, the coast or countryside. The cottage looks out over fields and distant hills and is quiet and peaceful. It is an ideal size for a couple, with lovely period furniture in the lounge and a well equipped kitchen. Outside there is a patio with table and chairs. Andrew, the owner, made us feel very welcome. He offered ideas for places to visit and where the best eateries are. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Holly Cottage and we would recommend it as a place to stay.

If your visiting Northumberland this cottage and its location are absolutely fantastic. The cottage its self is wonderful and restful and has everything a couple couple need. Every evening you get a visit from the farms Chicken she is so friendly. Its just outside Alnwick by around 12 a mile but it seems your way out in the countryside. Andrew the owner is a very helpful with his local knowledge. Holly Cottage is a great base to explore the Northumberland and all the great sights and Castles
A very nice Farm Cottage in a great location. Easily accessed from Alnwick it provides a great base to explore the area. Coast and countryside both within a half hour drive. Cottage is full of countryside charm, with a lovely little area to sit outside on summers evening and enjoy the countryside. We couldn't find a fault during our weeks stay. All needed amenities were there. Hosts were lovely the welcome gifts were much appreciated. Cottage is exactly as described on the listing, everything we hoped for and needed. Will definitely return in the future.
We could not fault the cottage . There was every utensil that one would need. Plenty of crockery, pans etc. outside area suited us . Very comfortable bed. Shower worked well. The owner Andrew met us just after arrival saying please contact him if there were any issues during our stay.
Trevor
Excellent holiday cottage. Well placed for exploring the area and with easy access to the various 'attractions' in the northeast.
On arrival , it smelt very fusty and mouldy, there were cobwebs in places , live spiders and webs under the table ,kitchen cupboards and plates rack dirty and dusty, cracked crockery , not microwaveable although microwave installed, kitchen tap leaking all the time , wooden draining board seen better days , washer drawer was black with mould , had to really clean it before use , nowhere to dry clothes, bath really high to get in and out. Dated furniture, very sticky to touch , it needs decorating and thorough cleaning all through the property.
Wonderful stay everything we needed, warm and comfortable with plenty of hot water . Ideal for visiting many places, all within easy distance. Thanks to the owners and Honey the dog, also thanks for the treats.
We were very comfortable in the cottage, found it an excellent location and enjoyed sitting out on the patio for an evening drink with a lovely view.
The reasons for our ratings are as follows 1. When mentioning to the owner within a couple of hours of arrival that the toilet seat was very unstable, nothing was done to rectify it. 2. The cleanliness was poor, made worse by the state of the oven, so much so that we decided not to use it throughout our stay. 3. The general decor is in need of attention and improvement many examples could be provided. 4. The furniture is very dated, although that is not necessarily a negative. 5. It is more likely that older guests will rent the property, as it is only suitable for two persons. It should be pointed out that the shower is tricky to access within the bath, being a a high bath panel, and b the proximity of the wash hand basin. We suggest that Sykes looks at this situation. 6. We suggest you look at the glass in the patio door windows the double glazing needs replacement.
A clean comfortable cottage. Nice quiet location close to Alnwick. Andrew was friendly and helpful, thank you. We had a great week. Would definitely go again.
Jessie
We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. So peaceful.and relaxing. We both slept better than we had in months as bed was so comfy. Such a lovely gesture to see a bottle of wine and to receive a box of fresh eggs for breakfast. Would definitely recommend and stay here again if down this way.
Lovely cottage in beautiful country side with all the facilities you require. Central location for Alnwick and within easy reach of the Northumberland coast. Andrew was very welcoming and could not be more helpful and just to say thank you for our stay at Holly Cottage
Kelvin
Lovely cottage, Ideal location for exploring the area, quiet surroundings. Beautiful views over farm. Host helpful and pleasant.
Fantastic location and lovely comfortable cottage. We had a great week. It was nice to come home after a day out and sit outside in the sun with a cuppa and watch the cows munching in the field. Thank you Andrew for the wine and the apples they were delicious.
Overall an excellent week. Andrew, the owner was very helpful upon arrival.
Lovely cottage and well kept with good facilities with stunning views across the countryside. Close by Alnwick so easy to get to and also central to many other places.

We enjoyed our stay but feel the property does need some basic maintenance. sealant around bath, front door lock ect. That said we did appreciated the comfortable bed, constant hot water and quiet surroundings. Real shame the holidaymakers Reviews have not been acted on by Andrew the owner. The multitude of appeals for a Guest Book, instructions for the appliances ect. would in our opinion make the experience more enjoyable. Beautiful part of the UK though. .
Owner very helpful. Excellent comfortable bed. Loved the pitch black nights and no traffic noise. Must be paradise here in the summer months.
Maureen
Holly Cottage is a perfect little getaway to unwind and relax. We were away over Christmas and on our arrival the host had left us a bottle of wine and mince pies. There was a Christmas tree all lit up and lots of little Christmas decorations in the cottage. Views were lovely too. Some beautiful places to visit fairly locally. The host also checked in on us to make sure everything was ok. We will definitely be booking Holly Cottage again. Thank you Andrew.
Andrew
Great location and quiet property despite being on an active farm. Andrew, the owner greeted us soon after arrival and made sure we settled in. Area was great for evening walks along the river or restored railway line with a lot of wildlife around.
We had a really lovely stay. Andrew and his family were so friendly and welcoming we can't thank them enough for our stay. We had a super relaxing stay it was nice to wake up to such an amazing view every morning and to be greeted by the cows in the field. The place was really clean and had everything we needed so no complaints. Bed was comfy, shower was good, TV worked fine, free parking just outside, the kitchen and appliances were easy to use and even on the super hot days we stayed there it never felt too hot inside which I thought was good. And it's in a good location too not too far from neighbouring villages and close to the seaside. Andrew went above and beyond on a couple of occasions and even gave us a lift into the village. Also loved meeting his little dog Honey. We will definitely be staying here again next time we are in Northumberland it suited us perfectly. Thanks ever so much for having us and hope to see you again soon!
Quiet property with great views and sunsets. Located just outside Alnwick with good road connections to other towns and historic sites. A better sign on the entrance would confirm that you have found the property. Lack of a teapot was a surprise or we didn't find it. Enjoyed our stay.
Cottage is lovely and cosy, really well equipped. Great location, so handy for Alnwick town centre, Bamburgh, Holy Island, Seahouses for boat trips to Farne Islands Alnmouth with carpark just a short easy climb down to fabulous beach. The cottage position is really peaceful, and the views over the fields and hills are great. We enjoyed waking up in the morning and seeing cows and their calves over the fence. We had a fabulous week in the cottage. If going into Alnwick TC, there are several long stay car parks which are free! Greenwell Road, B, C and E, Dispensary street, Roxburgh place. We managed to get into Greenwell rd on the Sunday, and Dispensary street during the week when we visited the castle and the gardens. Short stay carparks use a disc payment 1, which are bought from various retailers or pubs, info is on the internet.

Good location friendly owner Kitchen could do with a little more storage and a few hooks for tea towel and hand towel. Otherwise very good would book again when I visit Northumberland.
Very convenient location for A1 and access to coast and inland. Quiet, which we liked, good parking space, just right for a couple. We deceided to come home early as we both tested positive for Covid, so informede the owner, allowed more time for sanitizing before next letting and it was poibntless staying when my wife in particular felt quite ill. We must come back as we were very disppointed to come home on a glorious sunny day. This is perhaps not all suitable for publicizing, but i am happf for you to select what you wish to use
Comfortable and well equipped cottage in a rural location but within walking distance of Alnwick and ideally situated for exploring the coastal area by car or bus. Very friendly and helpful owners ensured that our stay was an enjoyable one.
Holly Cottage provides ideal accommodation for 2 people and was very quiet and comfortable. Located just outside Alnwick it's an ideal base from which to explore the Northumbrian coast and we would have no hesitation in recommending it.
What a wonderful place in a lovely setting. The farm owners are friendly and welcoming the stay was that nice we didn't want to leave. Briilant
Cottage ideally placed for visiting coastal areas and only short walk to town of Alnwick
Holly Cottage is ideally placed to explore the beauty of North Northumberland. The cottage is well equipped and furnished. The owner, Andrew is very friendly and helpful, despite him being extremely busy running his 3 farms. The only slight criticism is the lack of any instructions for the various appliances. However most things are straightforward, we didn't use the washing machine, and with Andrew's help we sorted out how the living room heater worked. For any future visitors the switches that control the heat settings are on the right hand side of the heater near the bottom. The bottle of wine on our arrival and the fresh eggs were much appreciated.
Cottage was exactly as advertised. Location was perfect. All the main places were in easy reach without being too far. We enjoyed watching the wildlife from outside the cottage and the inquisitive hens. A perfect place to explore the coast from. Andrew was very knowledgeable and friendly too.
Eunice
Lovely and comfortable cottage. Sat watching the cattle and the hares grazing. Lots of bird song and variety of birds to watch. Farmer and his family were very friendly.
Christine
Cottage very clean, everything you needed, warm, friendly host, 25 minute walk into Alnwick, will stay again, one useful thing needed would be instructions how to use appliances i. E. Oven
Graham
Fantastic cottage with everything you need in a fabulous location
We did not know what to expect due to Covid restrictions being in force, Sykes website advised us of considerations to take beddingpillows, food, extra cleaning products etc. We found this advice helpful. The cottage is situated on a working farm with this causing no issues whatsoever and was interesting to see the harvesting, feeding of cows etc. The cottage is easily accessible to nearby locations and shops, excellent hilly bike rides and walks with Alnwick Gardens and Alnmouth Beach a must to visit. Host left the ploughing of his field to greet us and was very helpful and friendly, we mentioned to him in passing a couple of light bulbs had gone he straight away removedreplaced them. Host did advise due to Covid a number of home comforts such as throws in the living room had had to be removed. Although an electric heater in the living room is fitted we would suggest you take a couple of your own throws as later in the evening the living area became a little chilly around your feetlegs. We would like to mention Carlos excellent fish and chip shop located within the town and also Lilburn's Restaurant Paikes Lane NE66 1HX we would suggest you contact the restaurant to make a reservation as again due to Covid they become full quickly. The food is excellent and the ambience in the restaurant has been maintained with very helpful and friendly staff and their control and cleanliness during Covid restrictions being undertaken in a most considerate manner. The only suggestion we could make would be a storage area be made available at the cottage to storesecure bikes safely. Overall a very enjoyable stay in a beautiful part of the Country.
Lovely holiday in this quaint cottage with all amenities perfectly situated for exploring lots of places In Northumberland, Alnwick is beautiful and in walking distance as are so many walks and cycling routes. First time in this part of the country absolutely stunning, we shall be returning.
This particular cottage was in an excellent location for Alnwick, Alnmouth and the coast. It was quiet most of the time with lovely views over surrounding countryside.
We had the most relaxing experience. Great place for relaxing and the location was great.
Jaclynne
A wonderful location and the owner and family made us very welcome
