High Hemmel House Reviews

Sylvia
The accommodation was lovely. It was very clean and comfortable. It was well situated for visiting places such as Seahouses and Alnwick. It was great for all the bedrooms to have their own bathroom. It was very well supplied with everything we might need. It was lovely to have robes to put on. Having such easy access to the pool was fabulous too and we very much enjoyed our swims. Our only issue is that we would have liked to have had access to the pool on all 3 days rather than just 2 of them.

Property generally well equipped for a holiday stay although the cottage caters for 8 people and there is only really comfortable seating for 6. Washing machine under stairs as described so mind your head. It is also in the cupboard storing ironing board, bar stools, plastic airer, vacuum so you need to empty all those out to use washer. The cottage was clean and comfortable but there was sand at the bottom of the hot tub when we first uncovered it and it had been cleaned prior to arrival. Also the hot tub whilst in own courtyard is overlooked and there is nowhere to hang towels or robes when using it. Storage in the bedrooms is a bit limited especially in one of the twin rooms. The welcome pack was thoughtful as was the addition of robes, air dryers, toiletries. Use of the on site pool also great. Staff were friendly and welcoming and it is a lovely cottage, short walk to beach and lovely pub that does food close by. There was no outside facility to dry clothes towels and, traveling with a disabled person, we do wash during the holiday. The plastic airer provided was really flimsy and small it kept blowing over. If you don't do much washing this wouldn't be an issue.

All facilities were very good and the property was spacious and well maintained.

The location of the house is fantastic and close enough to a lovely beach and to the village to walk. This area is very nice, as visited by us 30 years ago with our children, and now with them and their children. We thoroughly enjoyed a Billy Shiels boat trip to the Farne Islands again, an excellent activity and to be recommended. We didn't land. The National Trust charge you 15 each to land if not a member. Not worth it in our opinion, the trip itself was fantastic. Our family of three generations, including three young grandchildren had a fabulous time on holiday. The hot tub and the swimming pool were enjoyed by all the family. The booking system for the pool worked for us. In general the house was very good. Tastefully decorated, clean and wellequipped, to selfcater for 8 people. Also, reliable WiFi and a good sized TV with Apps. However the house wasn't entirely as advertised on the web site as it showed three ensuite bathrooms with a shower in each. The king sized room on the ground floor didn't have a shower over the bath as shown . This wasn't insurmountable but inconvenient. I did ask at the office and also mentioned this to the owner as we checked out. A washing machine is essential with three children under 7 enjoying the beach. If you are taller than me 5ft 4in you may struggle to access it in the under stairs cupboard, with the paraphernalia that was in the cupboard, and an intermittent light. The welcome pack of bread, milk, juice, butter and biscuits was most welcome, and tea bags to enjoy a cup of tea after a long journey from the Midlands. I liked the milk and juice in glass bottles, recycling and presumably local produce. Shower toiletries are in the bathrooms and hair driers and robes are supplied. It would be good to have seen these on the list of included items so as not to pack them. There was plentiful hanging space some chests of drawers in the bedrooms would be helpful. Not everyone wants to live out of a suitcase or bag on a seven night stay.
Stunning location with excellent sea views. Walks from the cottages to the beach and to Embleton village highly recommended. The development is impressively well kept and maintained. House comfortable and very well equipped. However, bed linen and pillows would benefit from an upgrade. Overall an excellent and enjoyable stay,
A fantastic property we were very impressed with both our accommodation and the whole site. High hemmel house was really well equipped and very comfortable, including the beds. We made great use of the hot tub and pool during the week, both of which were great quality. There was plenty of space to park and the site was maintained to a very high standard. The owners and site staff were all friendly and helpful throughout our stay and have clearly put lots of thought into making north farm cottages a brilliant holiday venue. We had a brilliant week and are already planning to book again for next year.

The stay at high hemmel house was enjoyed by all 8 of us . very clean and homely the arrival pack is just a nice surprise. we would love a price for the sleep 10 property for later on in the year .
It was a 10 rating fabulous place in beautiful settings, the swimming pool, I would highly recommend, very clean, fabulous to swim in. All bedrooms were great, good night sleep in them, clean and spacious. Hot tub was very easy to get in and out, very spacious, one fault, and only little one, no where to hang towels or robes beside hot tub. But I am sure easy to solve. I am delighted to say we all wanted to come back to the cottage. Fabulous thank you.
We had a lovely stay and found Hemmel House to be a brilliant base for our two families to visit lots of beautiful places in Northumberland. It was very wellequipped and comfortable.
The bed in the downstairs bedroom was unusable as the mattress had springs poking out all over. When this was mentioned to management she admitted that she was not allowed to resolve anything until she had received three complaints about the same problem. She said she had already ordered a new mattress. Her only resolution was to offer a discount on our next visit as she knew the owner would not give us a discount. The facilities on site were good but 3 stars only because of the bed.

We had a great stay at High Hemel house and certainly hope to return. The staff we dealt with were helpful and answered any questions we had. The house was very well equipped with some lovely welcoming touches that were greatly appreciated eg biscuits milk bread and butter. The pool area was clean and lovely. My only suggestion is a longer ladder in out of the pool would have been helpful for my 87 yr old Dad. Otherwise a great experience. Would highly recommend.
Beautiful location & facilities Local amenities are good along with warm welcome cottage is spacious & well equipped. Children, parents & grandparents enjoyed playground, swimming pool & hot tub! Wonderful family break will be going back!
Some of the towels were threadbare and need relacing. A fitted sheet on one of the twin beds was too small and kept springing off. Otherwise the property was great and we had a lovely time!!
What a cottage. Nothing to fault at all. Owners thought of so much and so many lovely touches. Swimming pool was beautiful. Hot tub and outdoor area was lovely with the picnic tables. Travel cot and high chair already there when we arrived. First class for me and my family. I couldnt fault it!!
The cottage was very well equipped and laid out for families. The swimming pool is lovely

What beautiful cottage and area could not fault It at all everything was perfect and made the weekend celebrations lovely A few of the group have mentioned looking to rebook as well We never got the chance to use the swimming pool but we loved the hot tub

I have just returned from a three night stay at Hemel House which was arranged as an annual catch up with a group of work friends. The accommodation exceeded our expectations and the location was perfect for walking. There was everything we needed to help us unwind and refuel. The interior is finished to a very high standard it was warm comfortable and met all of our needs. We made use of the hot tub and beautiful pool. The additional welcome pack of provisions is also a lovely touch. I have no hesitation about recommending the property to others and am aware one of the guests is very keen to return with her family. We have made new memories to treasure! Many thanks for a wonderful stay.
Angela
Wonderful accommodation in a lovely little complex. Well equipped kitchen with everything you need for a holiday from home. Swimming pool made it extra special. Would have been nice to have some garden furniture to use as we had a couple of lovely sunny winter mornings. Owners have made it extra special for children with play area and fairy trail and activities to keep them busy
Robert
Perfect for relaxing with everything we needed and more.
Lindsey
We were a party of 7 ladies looking for a Christmas get together. I found this property and it was perfect and certainly more than met our expectations. We have had a fantastic weekend. The views are stunning and the cottage itself was immaculate with some lovely little touches especially the Christmas Tree. We loved it so much that we have already booked for the same time next year.
We had an amazing stay at High Hemmel House. We will definitely be back.. plenty of room for us all & very comfortable. My only comment is there could be better drying facilities e.g a tumble dryer. With there being a hot tub and swimming pool, lots of towels are used and need to get dry. Apart from that, it was perfect!
The welcome pack was lovely and enjoyed by all. The house had great facilities and spacious for our family of 7. The heated pool had great views and we used our sessions freely during our stay. Our grandson enjoyed the play area and feeding the ducks. The hot tub was a great addition to the property and was used on many occasions. The walk to the beach was about a 1 mile through the fields. We loved our stay in North Farm cottages and hope to return again another time.
Fantastic place. We had a really great week. The swimming pool facility was really enjoyed by all.
Kathryn
Great stay at High Hemmel House, property lovely.
Claire
We absolutely loved our stay at high Hemmel house. We thought the pictures didnt do it any justice, as a group we were so impressed with the house and the facilities. The fresh bread, butter, milk and orange juice was a lovely touch and the views were fabulous! We are already planning our next stay and we have recommended it to other friends and family.
Denise
We stayed over Christmas and had a lovely time cottage was perfect for our family of 7 adults and one 2 year old, it was well equipped with a very thoughtful welcome pack and is in a great location. Having use of the swimming pool was a great plus point for us fabulous to have these facilities to ourselves. The adjoining bedrooms are perhaps the only minus point but we knew about this on booking would work perfectly for a family parents but not so much for adults. Note to the owners the bottom step is virtually invisible even when the hall is lit three of us missed this step and fell ! Some drawers in bedrooms hooks in bathrooms would be useful but not a complaint just an observation.
Michelle
Loved our stay it was our second visit. Just a couple of issues . The hot tub lid would not stay open. We could not close the diwnstairs bedroom window
Clean, good provisions and fabulous amenities in using hot tub and swimming pool. We will definitely return.
Beautiful property with plenty of space and the hot tub was perfect for the evenings. The playground was a good size for my 2 year old and the private pool was a big hit for all.
Sharon
Lovely location. The children enjoyed the swimming pool and play area but the older children were disappointed that there was no games room as stated in the features list on Sykes website.
We had a lovely stay at High Hemmel House. Property was well equipped and very comfortable. The hot tub was super! We loved our sessions in the private pool. The surrounding area is beautiful and we enjoyed the walk to the beach. Beach itself is stunning. We would highly recommend North Farm Cottages and we hope to return.

Fantastic family holiday. Excellent location. Near the beach, seahouses and Bamburgh. Having the swimming pool on site was brilliant! Close to Dunstunburgh golf, another added bonus. The site is very well maintained. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
Stuart
Fantastic holiday
Wonderful location and facilities. Friendly helpful owner and staff. swimming pool and hot tub really great for a family holiday.
Really warm and comfortable property. Having the swimming pool on site was a great feature and would be fab for families especially if the weather was poor. Hot tub was great and was ready for us to use when we arrived. Kitchen was very well equipped. Very comfortable beds and plenty of storage space. Excellent location and ideally situated for exploring the local area. There are recycling bins on site but it might be a good idea to have a box in the cottage for recycling. Would definitely rebook.
Catherine
Well we were struck by Storm Arwen when we were away which meant 24 hours plus without power. The owner kindly provided extra logs for the wood burner without charge and when they could, the contact members in the file at the cottage responded to our texts to let us know which shops were open, which roads were closed etc. This was the third stay for us at High Hemmel House and we are already booked up again for next year. Thank you
Very comfortable cottage. Perfect for families.
Maybe dressing tables are needed in bedrooms, couple nice lounging chairs around hot tub.
