Blakelaw Court Reviews

The accommodation was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. It was convenient for the A1 and also for Alnwick centre. We would definitely stay again.
Alma Felicity
The bungalow was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Everything had been provided and Tom could not have been more helpful. Alnwick is an interesting town and a wonderful centre for exploring Northumberland. We would highly recommend.
This property is so clean that you could eat off the floors. The beds are very comfortable and there is a large shower in each bathroom, which is very handy. The hosts left lots of toiletries toilet rolls, paper tissues, cotton wool, ear buds for us to use and provided plenty of hand soap and washing liquid. They kindly gave us a welcome bottle of wine a packet of cheese scones 4 of those little packet of biscuits and instant tea and coffee to last a few days. The property is in a lovely quiet location. Unfortunately, totally contrary to what previous occupants have written on this website and in the guestbook the accommodation is not at all well equipped for SELFCATERING, as opposed to heating up ready meal or eating out eating takeaways. There are plenty of plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, cutlery much better than many other places but very little in the way of kitchen equipment. We found the coffee machine in a cupboard but their was no handbook or instructions on how to use it and it looked as if you needed to go through a complicated cleaning process with specialised cleaning tablets, before being able to use it. It also requires particular coffee pods that were not provided. All that I needed was a basic cafetiere or similar so that I could brew my own coffee and not further trash the planet by buying coffee pods that I would not be able to use at home. As I could not make any coffee in the house I had to spend extra money, every day, buying coffee from somewhere. Even though the saucepans were all covered in Teflon or similar there were no wooden utensils to use for making food that requires stirring eg porridge and custard. The plastic utensils provided were for serving and not for cooking with. There were no metal pans without Teflon, to use as an alternative. There was no large bowl for making salads. There was no colander for washing fruit, lettuce etc. There was no vegetable peeler. There were no pyrex bowls or similar of any size. There was no whisk of any description so my daughter could not make pancakes or omelettes. There was no vegetable brush for cleaning vegetables. There was no sieve with which to wash rice. There were no trivets anywhere so we ended up having to construct our own from the fire kindling, to avoid ruining the wooden dining table or melting the kitchen surfaces. There were no large metal serving spoons or salad servers. There were very large plastic serving spoons, which could not be used for serving salad. There was no lemon squeezer. There was only one oven shelf and no roasting or baking tray beyond the one grill tray, which was in the oven. Even if you do not do any cooking, there were a few other problems to bear in mind. The locks on the bathroom doors were virtually impossible to use and several of us came close to being locked into them. These locks are not fit for purpose and need to be replaced with different locks. There are no grab rails at all in either of the showers. This means that although they could be potentially really helpful for someone with limited mobility, they are actually only useable to people with good mobility. This would rule out a lot of elderly people I know. There is no shade in the garden as it essentially a large patio. The outside table does not have a hole for an umbrella and there was no outdoor umbrella. This is a shame because the table is in full sun at midday. That said, the outside chairs were comfortable to sit on and the table was a good size. We just didn't use it because it was in the shade in the evenings so too cool to sit out at. There was only a user manual for the washing machine and nothing else. It took us quite a while to work out how to use the shower in the main bathroom. This could be remedied very easily by the host leaving instructions on how to use it. There was no information on what could and what could not be recycled. We only found out from our friends that glass could not be included in the recycling which is different to the Midlands. Otherwise, we would have added our bottle to the recycling and contaminated that collection. There was no information about the food recycling. It wasn't clear whether we had to put cooked food into the food waste or only uncooked vegetables.
We had a lovely stay at Blakelaw Court. We found the bungalow to be immaculately clean with all the equipment you would require for a weeks stay. It is deceptively spacious the photographs do not do it justiceboth inside and out with a lovely garden which we enjoyed relaxing in. The beds are exceptionally comfortable and the showers were excellent, The main shower baffled us on the first morning but we soon located the on button hidden on the end of the right hand bar. There were lots of much appreciated extras such as tea, coffee, biscuits, tissues, hand soap and plentiful toilet rolls which in our experience of other accommodation are not always included. The bungalow was easy to find from the A1 and the parking space was an added bonus. The area was exceptionally quiet and from the patio you could see the sea in the distance. The coast is just a 15 minute drive away. The bungalow is also well located for a short walk along Blakelaw Road into Alnwick for the gardens, castle, Barter Books and the shops. It is also conveniently positioned close to M&S food and Sainsbury for any provisions you may need. We also really appreciated the cheese scones and a bottle of wine on arrival. Thank you very much for a lovely stay. June and Karen
Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Everything we needed was there and it was lovely and peaceful in the evening.
Kathryn
The bungalow exceeded our expectations and more was provided than we had anticipated, which was super helpful! Very well kitted out. It was very comfortable, newly done up. I don't think the photos do it justice. Lovely garden and seating area. Super helpful having parking out front. Alnwick is beautiful and we were pleased we extended our stay beyond the wedding we were in town for. Thanks for a lovely stay.
Patricia
Gorgeous house. Very spacious. Well equipped. Could do only with more information such as recycling info, what coal to buy, how to operate heating and tv. Small things but helpful. Also maybe a map of route to walk into town. Thomas the landlord is lovely and brought us more fuel for fire. Definitely will be coming back. Five star plus all round.
Even though ours was a very last minute booking, the cottage was lovely, spotlessly clean and to a very high standard. It was a very quiet neighbourhood, yet so close to Alnwick and the coast etc. The cottage had everything we could possibly need to self cater and more, a real home from home. Would not hesitate to book again. Ps thanks for the welcome scones
Alistair
Really nice holiday home in a central location from which to explore the town of Alnwick, and further afield. Lovely, quiet and friendly neighbourhood. Bright and spacious kitchen and dining area. Cleanliness excellent throughout.
Very nice place to stay for a few days. Had everything we needed and the location is convenient
