Whinstones at 4 The Villas Reviews

We have just returned from a fabulous week staying at Whinstones. The property and location were amazing and we appreciated the contact and hospitality of the owners Bridget and Justin. We are a family of nine over three generations and the house was perfect for us all. Lots of space but also really cosy. We have booked again for 2027 unfortunately the dates we wanted in 2026 were already taken.
Claire
A lovely property. In a stunning location. Really appreciated that we could use such a wide range of the owners personal items.. in kitchen, DVDs, games, books etc and that guests are trusted to do so. Only criticism is of Sykes, not the property or owners who were so helpful and accommodating... it would make such a difference if it was possible to speak to someone at the agency post booking only online 'communication' is not a substitute!
A really welllocated home from home with spectacular views to the Northumbrian coast. A particularly wellequipped kitchen was an ideal shared space for our group with two sitting rooms providing quiet space when needed.
Thank you for everything which made our stay both delightful and memorable. We could not have wished for anything more. A wonderful time had by all. I
We loved our stay, this is one of the best if not the best! houses we've stayed in. I can't think of a single thing that was missing from the house. It was also superclean, which is no mean feat with a house this big! We loved being so close to the beach, lovely walk up to the Ship Inn at Low Newton. Bridget and Justin were very friendly and helpful, thanks so much.
Beautiful home, clean, well equipped and ideal for our large family. Perfect location to explore Northumberlands beaches, castles and parks. Thank you.
Giselle
The only thing wed have liked is a separate shower ie not en suite but this was the most well equipped, comfortable and nicest large holiday homes weve stayed in! Thank you Bridget.
The property was well equipped and extremely comfortable. A credit to the owners and we wouldnt think twice about returning if we had a full family get together in the future
We had a lovely family holiday and our two grandsons always wanted to go back to the Big House as they liked it so much. The house had everything we needed for a fantastic family holiday and the views were just amazing. The location is excellent and I would highly recommend the property for large family groups or for celebrating special occasions.
Very comfortable, Very clean and extremely well equipped, both inside and outside of the property, Great views. A complete hit with our family.
We had a wonderful family holiday, perhaps the best holiday accommodation we have stayed in. As previously mentioned, a shower in the first floor bathroom would complete it, but this is under consideration. Situation, facilities and house layout all first rate, highly recommended.
Super house in a fantastic location Owners were very friendly Instructions within property were very clear Loads of communal space which was very comfortable Great big kitchen with all equipment you would need Lovely garden furniture Embleton is a beautiful part of the coast Only one little drawback 2 en suites and 1 bathroom the family bathroom has no shower. Organising showers in the morning takes a little planning but ok once we sorted this Definitely would come again
Wonderful! Fabulous views, easy walk to the beach and Dunstanburgh castle, places to eat and a handy shop! The house was plenty big enough and more for UK and NZ residents6 2 children!! Christmas trees in the house was lovely touch for new year and we needed nothing except a bit more wood for the lovely fires
Had a fabulous stay at this beautiful property. We loved the sea views and proximity to the beach. The house was very spacious and well equipped with everything we needed. Thank you for helping to make a memorable family get together.
Angela
Fabulous property, well appointed, comfortable and so handy for the beach, and local amenities. Angie
Lovely large house in the most amazing setting. Very clean and comfortable with everything you could need for a short or long stay. Kitchen really well equipped and beds very comfortable with good linens. Easy walk to beach from the house and to pub, shop, golf club! Really great location. We had an issue with the dishwasher whilst there but the owners were aware and came to sort for us during our stay. The only downside was the showers situation... only two showers and these were in ensuites, one of which was really very small. It would have been hugely beneficial to have a shower in the main bathroom as we all ended up sharing two showers. Maybe something to consider for the future. All in all though, very enjoyable holiday in a lovely house in a beautiful part of the country.
Carole
This is the best holiday home we have ever booked. The location is excellent just a short walk to the beach and close to Alnwick, Bamburgh etc,. The house was so well equipped even down to the wet suits and body boards which our younger family members loved. The owners are incredibly helpful and not at all intrusive. We had a variety of ages plus 2 dogs and everyone loved their time there. We've had withdrawal symptoms since we came home! Highly recommend. Thank you Justin and Bridget.
Linton
We stayed here in late August with families with young children. The pictures did not do the place justice, it is a huge property and so well equipped. And an ideal location to set off on coastal walks. The kitchen was full of all the essentials. Having sky sports and Netflix in the lounge room went down well, and there were enough wetsuits and boogie boards for us all to use. Very clean and well kept, Bridget and her husband were super friendly and helpful. However, the views down to the sea are not highlighted enough. Really spectacular. The walk down to the beach is about 20 mins, but really is worth it. Also perfect for running. I ran along the beach up to the ship inn and back along the the coastal path each morning about 5K. It is a short 5 min walk into Embleton where there is a decent village shop with a deli, while the restaurant in the nearby Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel is superb. Couldnt recommend enough book ahead. Local pub also friendly and good selection of local ales. Would also recommend the nearby pizza place Embers a short 5 min drive away. In short, this place is a gem. We shall be back. Linton London
Rebecca
We had a great family stay at this property. The location and views are stunning. The property was spotless everything was extremely well looked after, and it was so well equipped, its clear its a well loved home that owners do stay in for part of the year, so definitely had a personal feel. Only minor issue we had was with the dishwasher but owner is aware and trying to sort it. I think its worth mentioning that there are two showers in the property both in the ensuites, the family bathroom only has a bath. The property sleeps 10 so access to showers if you have people that like to sleep in might be an issue for some. We wouldnt hesitate to recommend this property and hope to return its lovely.
The family had a brilliant week, thank you.
Victoria
Lovely property in a beautiful location
We had an amazing Easter holiday at Whinstones. We were two families 4 adults 4 kids and 2 dogs and everyone loved it. The house is beautiful and very spacious. It is well equipped with everything you could need including even wet suits to borrow for anyone braving the sea! The views from the house are simply stunning. It is well situated in the village where there is a a shop and pub and a hotel with restaurant if you wanted to eat out and walk back. The walks from the house either way along the coast were fantastic, again with pubs and seafood if a rest was needed. The golf course was also enjoyed and easy to access. We really enjoyed our stay and would very much recommend to others.
We had a delightful week. Thank you
A wonderful home and much bigger than we expected we all had a great time there and enjoyed the views , walks to the beach and just generally relaxing.
Andrew
We had a great time and liked the property a lot. And we'd go back and recommend it to friends. So all good on the big stuff. What we think could have been made clearer in the listing is that really this is a holiday let where you're staying in someone's own primary residence that they've vacated to allow you to stay. This wasn't a problem for us but it does mean it's a particular type of experience more friendly and homely but not quite as high standards of cleanliness, or consistency of furnishings some top quality, others less so etc as you might get elsewhere or expect. Final thought the listing really underplays the proximity and quality of Embleton beach and the fact that there are several great gastro pubs within 15 minutes drive.
Michelle
Fantastic property. Superb views. Lovely off road walk down to beach needs to be emphasised as this is a real USP. It is about 1m to beach as opposed to 0.1m as listed in description. A great combination of large house in peaceful village where you can walk to pub, hotel and small shop in under 5 minutes and to sand in 15. Something for everyone. No hesitation in recommending this property for both staying local or exploring further afield. Lovely coastal walks from doorstep to legendary pubs are a must. Would love to go back.
Just quite simply the best. Stunning views & plenty of space for everyone. Our family loved the stay, whether it was lazing in the lounge with a book or prepping meals together in the well appointed kitchen. Fun was had by all. Don't even dwell on it, just book it. It's quality
A beautiful holiday home in perfect surroundings. The home is so well equipped and beautifully clean. The views are stunning. A perfect place for a large family.
Victoria
Exceeded expectations with extremely comfortable beds, excellent facilities and a perfect location.
We had a wonderful stay here with friends. This is a very comfortable house, all the facilities you need and more, very much a luxury home from home feel plenty of family friendly space for all to enjoy, and the kids loved the top floor with space for play together. The garden has comfy garden furniture and bbq. Great to be able to walk to the beach, three pubs & nice playground within walking distance. Would definitely recommend and stay there again.
Sharon
We had a fabulous stay here. A lovely homely family house that allowed us as two families with young children to enjoy our time away together. Lots to do locally and the house is extremely well set up with all you could possibly need! Very friendly and helpful owners and we will definitely be back!
Elaine
A beautiful spacious well equipped family home. 15 mins walk from the beach. The owners were on hand and very helpful. Thank you.
Alison
Great house in a fantastic position. It was perfect for our family holiday Spacious, well apportioned and with sea views from most rooms. We loved it!
Andrea
This is a beautiful property and the best house we have stayed in Outstanding Cannot recommend it enough
Charles
An excellent location with fine views of the sea and castle ruins a short walk away. Ideal as dog friendly. Owners very helpful they have put a great deal of thought into providing facilities for this spacious Edwardian style house to a higher standard of wellequipped comfort than anticipated, including sheltered garden at the back with easy to use BBQ plus table tennis.
Richard
Fantastic place for a large family stay, could not have asked for more. Thank you
The house is in a perfect location in beautiful Embleton, a short stroll to the beach. The house is lovely and well equipped with fabulous views. Great pubs within walking distance along the beach and in the village. We had a great time and would definitely recommend anyone to stay.
Everything about this place is wonderful. The house is extremely well equipped, such a joy to live in and caters for children of all ages. The location is equally wonderful just a short walk to the beach. Brigitte who owns the house was amazing! There if you need her, so helpful and friendly. I cant tell you how much I loved this holiday and will definitely be returning.
Patricia
The property was very spacious and well equipped and comfortable and in a lovely location. The only comment we would make was a shower over the bath in the main bathroom would have been useful
Dennis
Excellent family house in lovely location
