Stephen's Cottage Reviews

One of the best , cleanest, warm and comfortable cottages Brenda and myself have stayed in. On the first night we heard an Owl really loud which set the tone of the holiday. Never seen as much wildlife! Sleep comes very easily at night but we had to leave a light on when using the facility's. It gets very dark on the Two steps near the loo! There was nothing we couldn't do in the kitchen extremely well stocked with tools. Finally parking is a doddle being close by! Thank you all john and brenda Bamford
Angela
Excellent spot for Alnwick and Alnmouth. Very peaceful setting.
No problems, well stocked kitchen, lovely location, spacious house, friendly owners, wishing them every success with their business.
We stayed in Stephen's cottage as a family of five children aged 4, 6 and 9 and had a fantastic time. The cottage itself was very clean and comfortable, and had plenty of space for us all. The shared garden was great and came with football nets and deckchairs as well as a dining table and chairs for each house. Comfortable sofas and beds and the kitchen had everything you'd need. We loved watching the tractors go by and we even got to feed the calves their milk. This was our first visit to Alnmouth, it's a beautiful town where the river meets the sea, there is a huge sandy beach and the town has a few pubs, a nice icecream shop and of course fish and chips. Alnmouth also has a train station, pay 1.50 to park there all day and you can get to Edinburgh in an hour or Newcastle in 30 mins. We really enjoyed staying at Bilton Barns and are already planning our next visit.

A great location, friendly on site owner and family who were great with children helping in the farm. Accommodation cottage was brilliant very comfortable and all amenities provided. Would happily return again
The cottage exceeded our expectations. Quiet and relaxing. Hope to return one day.

The best cottage we've stayed in for a long time. Very comfortable, quiet and well equipped. We had a lovely holiday, and found that it was a good base for visiting many places around the area, e.g. Lindisfarne, Bamburgh and walking coastal paths. Highly recommended.
Raymond
Lovely quiet location, well presented cottage with very good facilities and good layout we had a great holiday here.
The owners were amazing and couldn't have been more helpful or approachable. The cottage was lovely and really well kitted out. We had everything we could possibly need provided in the kitchen. It was the best equipped cottage we have rented in 20 years. If you want a quiet cotttage in an idyllic location, close to many tourist attractions Stephen's cottage is perfect.
Our hosts were lovely, the cottage was perfectly placed for exploring the area and very well maintained and equipped. Thank you so much ! Donna
Richard
Very comfortable the cottage. Ideal for sightseeing. Dorothy and Catharine are so helpful
Christina
We had an amazing time. The cottage was lovely and comfortable. We enjoyed being on a working farm and it was fascinating to see what goes on. The owners were very friendly and helpful. All being well, we would love to return again.
Valerie
The house is as described, clean and comfortable. Sadly a very poor welcome pack... Not even a pint of milk!! Not the best considering the distance from any shops and the condition of the access road which certainly leaves a lot to be desired, really deep pot holes in places which must loose you a lot of return customers.
Sandra
We had a wonderful holiday. The owner is lovely and made sure we were comfortable. A big thankyou.
Jean Anne
Splendid, so peaceful, everything worked . ..

Stephens Cottage was perfect for our week in Northumberland. The family who own the farm looked after us really well. We got to feed the baby lambs with bottled milk and meet the cows. Plenty of places to visit around suggest Cragside NT, Holy Island, Eat at The Fish Shack 1015 mins away. If you like books visit barter books. Visit Craster and walk to Dunstanburg?? Castle. I would highly recommend Stephens cottage. Just be aware that the long access to the farm is an uneven and bumpy track. This was not a problem to us at all just took it steady.
We had a fantastic week staying in Stephens cottage. Its perfectly located with so many beautiful places nearby. Alnmouth was within walking distance from the cottage along a footpath through the fields. We also visited Craster, Alnwick castle, Bamburgh, Amble and Warkworth, all of which were less than 30minutes drive away. The owners, Dorothy and Brian, were extremely welcoming and even let our children bottle feed their lambs which made their week. The cottage was actually recommended to us by a friend and we would definitely recommend it to other people too.
We love the Alnwick, Alnmouth, Warkworth, Amble area and the beautiful coastline. We are familiar with the area and have stayed at a few other cottages in the area previously whilst all have been lovely, we found Stephens cottage to be the best yet. Ideally located for exploring and walking, or just relaxing. The owners Dorothy and Brian were lovely and welcoming. The accommodation was clean, comfortable, well equipped, warm and peaceful despite being on a working farm. We enjoyed a very relaxing break and would highly recommend to others. We hope to return later in the year.
Robert
We had a great holiday at Stephen's Cottage. The cottage was extremely clean, comfortable and well equipped to cater for 6 people . One of the best cottages we have stayed in over many years . Lovely friendly owners who were close at hand for queries but not intrusive. We would highly recommend this accommodation and hope to return again in the future. Thank you for a wonderful holiday
Amanda
This was an extremely comfortable and well equipped cottage. The views of the surrounding coast and countryside were stunningly beautiful. A lot of thought and care had been taken to provide the perfect level of comfort for a countryside holiday. I stayed with two friends who were as impressed as I was. Our holiday was definitely enhanced by the care and consideration of owner Dorothy , and her daughter Catherine , who could not have been more hospitable. We look forward to visiting again.
The cottage was very clean, comfortable and very well stocked with china, cutlery and kitchen accessories. Ideal location for exploring the area.
Bernadette
Had a great week. Hosts really friendly and helpful.
Eleanor
We had a lovely week the cottage was perfect and the owners welcoming and keen to check all was well.
Very enjoyable stay, everything necessary provided , the owners were very welcoming. Great garden for children to play in. Wouldnt hesitate to recommend this cottage.
Carole
Stephens cottage was very clean, comfortable and fully equipped. It was warm and homely and the 2 bathrooms were very useful. It is well positioned for visiting lots of Northumbrian sights and also has a train station should you want to go further afield. We had a lovely week there with plenty of wildlife around the farm grounds to see. We would definitely stay again.
Lovely comfortable cottage. Spotlessly clean probably the cleanest cottage I've stayed at. All the facilities are good comfy beds excellent shower. The kitchen equipment is really good quality and everything you could need is supplied. And the hostess couldn't have been friendlier or more accommodating Thank you for a lovely break. .
Stephen
A lovely cottage, very clean and well looked after. Everything we needed was there and the location is ideal for exploring the beautiful Northumberland coastline.
Joanne
We had a lovely stay over Christmas in this cosy cottage. The Christmas tree and decorations were a nice touch. We booked Stephen's and Brian's together for 12 adults, a baby and a toddler and there was plenty of room for us all. They would be great for big groups to book together as the garden goes right across the back of all 3 cottages. Dorothy responded well to my contact before the trip and was very accommodating. To top it all, her husband used his tractor on Christmas morning to tow out one of our cars which had got stuck in a field! Would definitely recommend.
It was home from home very comfortable and cosy. The owners were so helpful and welcoming I would highly recommend these cottages.
Had a great time, lovely cottage and area. Owner very friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back. Missing a microwave but didnt cause us any problems. If you like the great outdoors this is a great lace to stay
The location was great being on a working farm with lovely views. The owners were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was fabulous, beautifully presented and very comfortable with all mod cons. We really enjoyed our holiday in a lovely area with lots of places to go and good restaurants nearby.
The cottage was comfortable and there was everything we needed. The owners were friendly and helpful, with the bonus of them living nearby
Aileen
Stephen's Cottage is beautiful, and exactly as described on the website. The owners are very friendly and couldn't be more helpful, checking with us on arrival that everything was ok and that we had all that we needed. Unfortunately, we had to cut short our holiday almost as soon as we arrived, due to a Covid case in our party, so did not have the opportunity to make the most of the beautiful surroundings and all that Northumberland has to offer. A word of warning to Sykes customers taking out the insurance policy at the time of booking as we did in case of Covid we assumed, wrongly, that it would cover having to curtail our holiday due to a Covid case in fact, it only covers cancellation within the two weeks before the holiday commences. Our fault, as we did not check the wording carefully, but a very expensive mistake to make we lost the total cost of our holiday, as well as our holiday itself. I would imagine many other people will be caught out in the same way perhaps Sykes could offer more than one insurance policy on their booking page, with an option for curtailment cover too? This is no reflection at all on the lovely owners, who were very sympathetic and keen to help us in any way they could.
The cottage was beautifully decorated and comfortable in a quiet and peaceful location.
Michelle
Really lovely, clean cottage and the host Dorothy was very helpful with queries and putting away our Sainsburys delivery which arrived nearly an hour early. Great place and planning to book all 3 cottages for extended family break next year
Charlotte
Very clean and comfortable cottage. Well located for beaches and local tourist attractions but far enough away for a quiet and peaceful retreat. Really enjoyed our stay
Bronwen
Lovely location, convenient for northern and southern coastal places we wanted to visit and Alnwick and Cragside. We had beautiful weather for the week which always helps, so it was a really lovely holiday.
Patricia
The cottage is clean and spacious. The garden is enclosed which was great for our children to play in. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. It's in a great location for exploring Northumberland. We would definitely book again! Thank you for a lovely week.
