St. Dolmen Reviews

Andrew
We have stayed up several times in the attic apartment, enjoying the views and surrounding area. We like the use of the swimming pool, but would appreciate if people came out on time. A wonderful place to stay for surrounding attractions and walks.

Very clean and modern. Unfortunately the apartment is on the upper floor within the roof area. This made the roof angle at 45 degrees. Being six foot tall entailed me banging my head more than a dozen times the first day and several times more during the week. Even the maintenance man when he came to replace the bedside light bulb, very quickly after reporting it, his opening question was how many times have you banged your head?Had we known about the angled roof we would have opted for somewhere else. The apartment was very clean and the bathroom exceptionally so. A couple of points to mention. Perhaps it would be better if the TV was on a moveable angle bracket so able to watch from the bed. Provision of a washingup brush would be a good idea. We spent some time watching the Rugby and ended up calling out CROUCH every time one of us stood uo! HA. Other than the roof everything was more than satisfactory. .

The TV is small, badly placed and the dvd option did not work. Could not view from bed, chairs to small and not comfy. Could do with a full length mirror. Maybe on back of living room door. Otherwise a great place for our holiday and would stay again.
Excellent facilities, great location, peaceful, handy for amenities, friendly staff. well maintained clean and comfortable apartment
Gillian
Excellent base with everything on the doorstep. we will be back

In hot weather the top apartments get too hot, there is a need to vent the building of the hot air, the front of the building is all glass. No oven or bottle opener otherwise excellent, pool is lovely location awesome

Just returned from a family break, 1924 Feb 22 where we had all four units Mill View, Newton View, St. Cruz, and St. Dolmen, in the main block above the swimming pool. Whilst we generally found the accommodation excellent there were a number of small but important issuespoints that could be much improved in St Cruz and St Dolmen for the convenience of the guests. All of which relate to basic storage facilities. The Wardrobe is no more than a cupboard with no hanging rail. There are 2 bedside cabinets, but then nothing else. We had to revert to leaving quite a lot of our clothing in our suitcases, on the floor. The lamps on the cabinets have long trailing leadsextension cables to connect to the nearest wall sockets , and the onoff switch unable to be reached from the bed, a touch onoff lamp base would be more convenient. There is no small coffee type table to utilise with the 2 tub chairs, just a small foot stool that is inappropriate. I would be nice if the television on the wall had a swivel mount, to enable it to be viewed from the bed. The bathroom storage is poor. It would be easy to provide an open shelf unit to the side of the sink, so there is somewhere to store all toiletries etc. The very small low table is inadequate. There is no storage for soapsshampoo etc. in the shower unit, resulting in having to put toiletries down on the floor of shower tray, making access during a shower unnecessarily awkward. This could easily be remedied with a small chromewire storage corner unit. A seatbench could be provided at the door and entrance to the four apartments to facilitate the removal of muddy boots etc. rather than having to revert to sitting on the stairs. I have photos to informillustrate the above points but there is no way of adding to this 'feedback'

Location perfect, indoor pool fantastic, cleanliness good, No wardrobe, just a hall cupboard with hooks, No mirror for hair drying, Bath and hand towels only, we would have expected bath sheets for a 5 establishment. All knives were blunt Cooking facilities very limited, no oven or area set aside for barbecuing making a weeks stay difficult as local eateries were not serving food every day apart from fish and chips which we dont usually indulge in. The bed was comfortable but very low, only 12 from floor making it difficult for anyone with hip or knee problems, that should be pointed out in the booking blurb as it could spoil someones holiday. The fact that the steep stairs were pointed out as being difficult for people with some mobility problems but no mention of the bed needs to be addressed.
Only that the roof space where the eaves drop at the sides is very low and we both banged our heads 23 times though the space elsewhere is adequate. I did speak to the owner about some seating outside and he said he was considering some. There is an hourly bus service which runs through the day and will stop outside the entrance which is usefull to connect the walks in the area and goes to Alnwick. The owner has cut a path to connect down to the beach ,a half hour walk ,and to village avoiding the road a ten minute walk away. The swimming pool is good however under present conditions you are given daily hourly slots and if on your own would have to find a swimming buddy as not allowed if only one swimming.
Jennifer
I found the limited headroom difficult and I am only 5ft tall! Also I could not use the swimming pool as rules said no lone swimmers and I travel alone. Was really disappointed. Bathroom access difficult as door gets in the way.... should open outwards. Building also open to public for hairdresserbeauty salon
The accommodation was overpriced for what it provided in terms of the living accommodation, though the additional facilities were excellent and the location beyond compare. The studio was in the roof space but did not give much headroom we both bumped our heads on several occasions! There was a lack of surfaces to place anything an additional chest of drawers would have been helpful. Also a secluded outside seating area for the 4 units would have been helpful. We were on a working holiday and the accommodation was not really suitable for this.

St dolmens is within a superbly well organised and maintained holiday let complex. It provides walking access to the dunes and beaches through its own land . We had a superb time with no need to use the car walking north and south to enjoy the great takeaway food at the car park in Carster after a super walk via Dunstanborough Castle
Richard
This is an excellent apartment. We did fear it may be a little cramped however this was not the case for us but if youre over 6ft it may be more of an issue, the accommodation had a microwave and toaster which previous comments suggested it didnt have. The apartment is very well placed for exploring the wonderful beaches and within easy walking distance of a shop and Pub.
Lovely apartment and beautiful location. Would really benefit from a microwave, but that is the only criticism of St Dolmen. We'll definitely be returning to North Farm Cottages.
