St Marys Cottages No4 Reviews

Philip
Despite getting the fire going which made downstairs very cosy, the radiators upstairs didn't really get warm. The room with the two single beds in felt cold.
Great location in Low Newton, was a good base for our trip. Disappointed that no starting fire equipment lighters or matches newpaper was provided to get the stove going considering this was the source of heating.

The cottage has its own charm, it was cosy and more or less clean. But, from the first second we found a lot of missing things which usually provided for free especially for the price for this cottage!!! , such as dishwasher sponge and gel, dishwasher tablets not counting one wet block of washing powder, hand soap , table cloth, waste bags, also tea bags and a bit sugar would be a very welcome gesture Toilet paper rolls were not in the quantities which gives you peace in mind. I would rather have them listed in the description of which things we need to bring then be surprised upon arrival. Our guests who stay in the cottage came to celebrate our daughters wedding from abroad, it was big surprise for them too to find this cottage not well equipped as usually done in rental homes in Europe. The other cottages around this place contains everything needed, according to people invited for the wedding. The shower regulator on the first floor was broken, shower curtain is missing.
We stayed for a week and we had the best time, we didn't want to leave. The house was brilliantly laid out, the double and twin rooms were very good sizes and having two bathrooms was very useful. The location was perfect for a morning swim or stroll along the beach and equally good for exploring the surrounding area. The garden was also lovely although it wasn't nice enough for us to use it. The beds were nice and comfy and the towels were soft.

A warm, cosy and comfortable house in a stunning location. We were so pleased with our holiday we've booked again for October 2025.

We had a fabulous week at St Marys cottage. Its in a fantastic location very close to beautiful Embleton bay. Our dog had the time of his life running along the bay, off lead, every day. Great food and drink available at the Ship Inn next door. The only thing that would have enhanced our stay was if the large tree at the bottom of the garden was cut back as it blocked out all the sunshine from late afternoon which was a shame as the garden is lovely.

Clearly needs some refurbishment wallpaper hanging from the walls, very disappointed with the standard of cleanliness cobwebs and dust everywhere. Arrived to find the log burner needed cleaning out and resetting before we had any heating. Mattresses on most of the beds clearly need replacing,This is the second time we have stayed at number 4 and is a stunning location and cottage just needs some tlc.

A nice holiday house for a family. This is the 2nd time we have stayed here and love it because of the situation so close to the beautiful beach.
Stayed in Low Newton many times over the years but this is the first holiday at No. 4 St. Marys and we liked it so much we booked again for two weeks next year. The cottage is well equipped with a large garden with lots of birds so bring some wild bird food if you're staying there.
Catherine
Loved the location and big enclosed garden, which we were lucky enough to sit out in most of the week. Enjoyed our stay. Listing stated to bring own towels but they are provided which would have saved us space in the car. Also no teapot which was strange unless it has been broken? Would love to stay again but the prices for next year have risen a fair bit.
Lovely location Lovely back garden Only things that caused an issue were Bottom oven did not work which is not ideal when a family of 6 is staying Key lock in front door very difficult to open Hoover was full of dirt which suggests its not been emptied for a while General cleanliness of property could have been better Got flea bites from sitting on sofa Was provided some financial recompense for oven not working which was helpful. I would stay in the property again as overall it served its purpose and the location was fantastic but the above points would benefit from being addressed
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at No 4, a clean and comfortable and sufficiently equipped cottage to return to after a day of walking and birdwatching. The garden is a delight for watching the sparrows, swallows and house martins. We were so pleased to see swallows nesting in the front porch, and happy to use the back door only so as not to disturb. Unfortunately, we were going to book for the same week next year, but the fee is more than double for some reason. We swiftly managed to rearrange things at home care for elderly Mum and for grandchildren and booked the following week at a more affordable price. It is understandable why this lovely cottage books up so quickly

Location was perfect but we struggled to keep the fire going for the whole time so spent a lot of time feeling a bit chilly, warmed the place up nicely when it was going though. The downstairs bathroom was cold in the mornings. Kitchen was functional, couldnt find any baking trays but used a flan dish instead. Starter packs were great. The blossom was beautiful but it left a lot of bits in the house. The garden was long and very pretty with the bluebells. Parking was great and vicinity to the beach was perfect.
I was a litlle concerned because I booked the cottage before reading the most recent reviews, but its clear to see the owners have address the previous guests points. The cottage was nice and clean when we arrived, there were fresh towels and the Wifi was up and running. My husband found the fire lighters and got it going in no time. The cottage warmed up and stayed cosy the whole time we were there. This cottage is really well situated for familys visiting the beautiful beach and exploring the surrounding area. Its also great for walkers wanting to walk the costal paths. We enjoyed our stay and feel its value for money.
Greeted with a digital display to show how much electricity we were using? No starter pack to light the fire, after 4 hour trip had to go to Embleton to get firelighters and wood. Stove was not cleaned out prepared. Brought candle to offset smell from coal. Holes in coal bucket? TV too small. No oven lights. Light switches and bannister filthy and required multi surface cleaner. Windows on door filthy also cleaned. Hoover not emptied. Two half toilet rolls. Rust on fridge door. No towels. Cooker hood filthy, also no lights. No salt and pepper. Shower room was always freezing. Whole place needs a deep clean. Threadbare carpets. Overall grubby it's ONLY saving grace is it's location, rear garden & private parking. Actually wanted to come home earlier.
This is the most lovely cottage, outstanding location by the beach, very well equipped, wonderful for families.
St Mary&39s No4 is cosy, warm and unpretentious the perfect bolthole for us to come together as a family for a break from busy working lives.
The house is in an amazing location in Low Newton with sea views and just yards from the beach!
The property could not have been more convenient for the beach and the safe, enclosed garden was ideal for the grandkids and for the adults to barbecue. Sitting room and bedrooms were comfortable and the kitchen was more than adequately equipped. The children loved sharing their little room and the adults appreciated the comfortable beds.
We already knew the locality of the cottage, having stayed in and around Low Newton on numerous occasions. It is very close to the beach and is ideal for a relaxing break in lovely surroundings.
Perfect location for easy access to the beach, wonderful walks and super pub. The enclosed garden was great for our dog. The fire made the cottage really cosy on the chilly evenings.
Lovely situation for the beach. Good sized rooms and very clean with good decor.
