Percy Cottages No4 Reviews

Rebecca
We really enjoyed our stay. The house has everything you need to be comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked, but do bring a corkscrewpeelertin openerspatula if you would like to use one. We were cosy and enjoyed having the wood fire and underfloor heating in the kitchen was very much liked by the dog. Nice little touches such as a welcome pack and wash bits such as tea towel, scrub and washing up liquid. One thing to note not a problem for us is that the hot water is from an immersion heater so do switch it on when you arrive so the water has time to heat up if you'd like a bath. The cottage is ideally situated and just a short walk to the beach.
No. 4 Percy Cottage is a lovely comfortable, warm, clean and very pleasant cottage to stay in. The new kitchen is very beautiful. The towels and bedding are very pristine. It is situated very close to the beach ideal for dog walking. Only one, positive suggestion, I would like to make, a lightweight carpet sweeper would be a boon as I found the Henry vacuum very heavy. I would highly recommend No. 4 Percy Cottage. Mavis Foster

Lovely cottage in the perfect location. We come to Alnmouth 2 or 3 times a year if we can. The cottage soon warmed up once the heaters we switched on. We couldn't find the cutlery as it was in a secret drawer in the kitchen never heard of this. But with a quick phone call we found it. So maybe some clearer signage would be helpful. The only issue we had was with the dreaded electric shower. The water pressure was not great and I had to wash my hair in the kitchen sink. Also myself and my husband are 6ft plus so it was a bit of a struggle due to the slope on the ceiling. Having said this we were greatful to have found somewhere at such short notice and would definitely recommend Percy Cottage. We always enjoy our trips to Alnmouth.
Percy Cottages No. 4 is in a great location. Alnmouth a lovely place with a beaten beach and nice pubs. Lots of things to do and see. The property is lovely with a really nice living room and kitchen. Had a great time.

This cottage feels instantly homely but spacious too! Brilliant location, just 5 minutes walk to the beach. Well equipped, lovely kitchen. Welcome pack on arrival, much appreciated! Outdoor big yard a bonus, especially for dog owners. We loved this cottage and will rebook for next year.
The location of the cottage is fantastic, with only a stone's throw from the beach and pubsrestaurants. The heating system is a little haphazard with individual electric heaters in each room as the storage heaters don't seem to work. There is a wood burner in the living room which we didn't use. The towels and bedding were clean and of a good quality. The shower bath is ok but we are used to a power shower so it seemed a little weak to us. For a short stay we had 4 nights it was fine. The carpets in the living room were badly stained and either needed a good clean or replacement. The wifi worked well and we were able to connect our phones and iPad without any problems.
This cottage was located across from beach on Main Street which was fabulous for us to walk the dog. Parking was a bit awkward though and we were lucky on each occasion we took the car out. There was no parking available outside of cottage. The facilities in kitchen were great and it was nice to have a little welcome pack. The beds were super comfortable too. The only negative would be the inside is a bit tired and could do with freshening up and the cream carpet needs replacing with maybe a dark one or laminate flooring as dogs are welcome here and the carpet looked a bit stained. All the pubs on the street welcome dogs too. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Could have done with an 11 am departure time and not 10.00. Cleaner turned up bang on 10.00 as we were loading the car.

Lounge carpet dirty. Had to clear gutter over downstairs toilet within two hours of arriving to stop rain water coming under back door the third time we've stayed here that this has happened. We will not be booking this property again.
Lovely cottage in a great location. The only downside is that you may have to park a little way away but that's a minor inconvenience.
This was a cottage in a great position in the town with lovely walks on the estuary and beach straight from the door. Parking was a challenge but it was the middle of the school holidays and we always found somewhere but may have had a bit of a walk. The kitchen was spacious and very well equipped although from the description I expected a proper fridge freezer rather than a small freezer in the fridge. There is so much cupboard space, a washing machine would be great addition. Dishwasher was a nice surprise. Sitting room was comfortable but to extend the table required furniture moving. Our biggest issue was the bathroom but we had been warned in the comments from others. Its a big climb into the bath and the shower was very poor on full power the heat could not be controlled and medium the water was weak. Beds were a bit soft but bedrooms spacious. We would not return because of the bathroom. There isnt really a patio out the back its a thoroughfare and not a place you would choose to sit in but the beach is so close its not needed.
Very comfortable cottage in an ideal position for exploring the lovely local area. The new kitchen is a great improvement.

What a cracking little cottage, perfectly situated too. It's a bit quirky here and there, as it's an old property and has been utilised to maximum effect. We loved its' character. Turn right out of the front door and you're on the beach in two minutes! Clean and tidy with everything you need, what's not to like? We had an absolutely fantastic stay with our old Lab, and will book it again in the future I'm sure.
Francesca
The cottage is in a great location, very close to the beach. Everything very clean and neat, with small welcome packs for teacoffeewashing updishwasher tabs Kitchen has recently been updated and had all equipment you need. We cooked each evening of our bank holiday break with no issues although choice of restaurants very close. Lunch at the Boathouse in Amble was a wonderful treat always great but we also tried the Landings at Beadnell definitely avoid as it was terrible and expensive. Living area was comfy and spacious. Instructions for wifi werent correct in welcome book but easily remedied as on back of router. I would definitely stay here again its great that it is dog friendly so really didnt mind it wasnt a show home! If I could I would have given 4.5 stars. Only things stopping this being a 5 star review is the outside space which has lots of potential as a place to sit out and enjoy it needs a tidy and a few pretty plants and the mattress on the double bed was quite soft and might benefit from a new one. Overall we had a great stay and would be happy to recommend.
The cottage was very nice. I would definitely go back Its very comfortable The kitchen is very old and could do with a little revamp . The WC behind the kitchen was not usable as it wouldnt flush which was a pain but the upstairs was fine very narrow doorway to get through. The noise from the the front street was okay but we did move to the twin back bedroom for a quiet sleep. I would come back as it was a great wee cottage. Great for the wee dog as it wasnt pristine so we didnt worry too much although we put covers in all the furniture. As we do whenever we go away Alnmouth is lovely Thankyou for our stay it was very restful and a great wee get away in a lovely location x
Carole
We loved this cottage! Yes, its a little battered around the edges, but it was very comfortable with everything you could possibly need for an affordable seaside break. We enjoyed the free view tv on the dark evenings and made use of the games in the cupboard. I did bring a novel home with me but will leave one next time! It was wonderful to have everything provided for the wood burner but the weather was so fabulous during half term that we didnt need to light it. A washing machine instead of the downstairs toilet wouldve been useful, and as mentioned before in the reviews do something about the upstairs bathroom door! But these are minor things and certainly didnt affect our stay. We were mum, grandma and two under 12s. Alnmouth is delightful and we have been many times but the first time to Percy Cottage. We will certainly be back to this cottage
A lovely warm cotttage but needs some general maintenance especially in the kitchen. Cupboard door only on one hinge! A mention in the details as to whether logs are available for the stove we were lucky enough to bring some with us and discover they are available at the lovely shoppost office. Altogether a lovely stay
Ideal location for exploring Northumberland or making a base for visiting the number of golf courses in the area. We were notified that we could check in early if we wished which was a bonus. It may be difficult to get a parking space by the property but there are options within 5 minutes walk. The key drop box is easy to use. The kitchen facilities were adequate and there are some previous guest leftovers in the cupboards, including pet treats. On that topic, if you have dog allergies it may not be the property for you. There is one bedroom with a double bed, another bedroom with a single bed and a final bedroom with two single beds. The mattresses are very soft, as were the towels provided. Overall this cottage is a good place to stay in the area, with great scenery around. Alnwick is not far for visiting a supermarket if required.
This is without a doubt the best place we have stayed in Alnmouth. We come every summer and winter 4 years in a row now and each time we have, we have not been 100 happy with the house we chose so have stayed somewhere different each time. This is the first ive wanted to return to. The house is on the main street in the village and is a gorgeous place. It is literally a minute walk to the estuary and beach, not evebn a minute to the local shops and pubs and restaurants. The house itself is bigger than i expected. All rooms are big and all furniture is very comfortable. This house was the only one we've stayed in that we haven't cleaned to some extent on arrival. It had a lovely welcome pack with tea coffee sugar milk and cookies, with washing up liquid, bin liners, hands wash and tea towel. We have stayed in previous that didn't even provide toilet roll, this one obviously did. There was a cupboard full of dog food and treats which was lovely, a cupboard in the living room full of games, some binoculars, life jackets, plenty towels and even extra blankets. It had a large array of kitchen utensils and cutlery and crockery and trays pans etc, everything you needed with still lots of place left for cooking space and food storage. the pantry cupboard looked very tired and dirty but i think it was just the paint wearing etc so we didnt use that. The garden said it was not a secure garden, but in my opinion it is. It is a good size for a small cottage and had lovely big table and chairs with cover. The bins were easy to access too. There was also a small 2 seater table and chairs the little metal ones which was cute but with paint chipping and a lot of rust we didnt use as they didnt look comfortable or usable but the big table made up for that and we sat out there every day and night. The garden is surrounded by a 6ft fence and wall on all sides so i would say secure, its just that it had a small gate on each side as this provided access to other cottages to get to their gardens through ours. This was not a problem to us as it wasnt overused by neighbours at all, i think only twice did a neighbour cone through but they were always polite and respectful and careful of our dog. We did have builders come through a lot doing work on the next door which meant theyj came through a LOT on the one day and a couple trimes on another day but again they were very respectful and careful not to let our dog out and they fussed the dog which she loved so it didnt bother us, and obviously we were outside with the dog each time so we didnt worry. I would consider it secure, just shared access, but obviously if youre outside with the kidsdogs at all times then its not an issue and it is not used much by neighbours in our experience, just by those builders but i know that wont be a regular occurrence so didnt bother us one bit. I would of loved a washer and dryer, and I'd of loved a tv upstairs even just the main bedroom zbut these are things we havent had in anyt other cottage either so didnt expect and managed fine without. There is a step down into the kitchen and a step down into the one bedroom and the bathroom upstairs, but the step is no bigger than the normal steps on stairs. The bathroom is the only one i will point out, as the door is very narrow too and doesnt open fully wide with the bath behind, so for somebody unsteady i could see it being a very slight problem getting in or out the bathroom bathrooms without help, however, i cant see it being a problem for anyone who could make it upstairs in the first place. The only things i would change if it were my cottage, is id have wooden floor throughout as its a cottage that welcomes kids and dogs who can be messy and with it being right by the beach would remove the issue of sand in carpets or muddy feetpaws. Id have a washer and dryer or even just the washer, and id have a tv upstairs. Id have a larger doorway to bathroom or remove the glass of the bath screen and have a shower curtain so the door could open wider, and id have a path for the garden built across thhe back along the wall, fenced in separate to the garden space so that people passed behind rather than through, but these are tiny unnecessary things tbh, just things i think would make it 100 out of 100 rather than 99 haha. Like i said, its amazing place, absolutely stunning, we loved it and are hoping to return but cant find booking now until 2026 which is extremely unfortunate as it means I'll have to book another, and to be honest i cant imagine another as perfect as this from my experience so far.
We loved the location so close to the beach and a pretty seaside village with lots of options to eat in the evening. The cottage is comfortable and characterful with a great games cupboard. Our evenings were spent playing carpet bowls til late, a game from my childhood introduced to a new generation! And they beat me! Not lots of appliances but enough and the simplicity was also part of the appeal. Thank you for a lovely break and hope to revisit sometime. Lots to do in the area and worked for a holiday with 3 generations. Thank you.
Rosemary
Cottage overall was comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. 2 of the people staying were in their 80s which made the narrow door and step into bathroom a bit hazardous. Lack of dishwasher a disappointment especially as the cleaning pack contained DW tablets and only a miniscule container of Washing up liquid. Garden furniture in back yard was inaccessible as bins and a plastic covered pile of wooden garden furniture took precedence.
Spotlessly clean & very comfortable. Such spacious rooms & very warm. Probally the best cottage we have used. From the kitchen window we just watched all the swallows, blue tits, sparrows blackbirds & many more at a distance of 12 feet, each mid afternoon in the court yard so enjoyable. Regrettably the TV could not receiveshow any Freeview contant as the external TV aerial is broken & hanging loosly over the rear court yard, we also suggest the additition of a few shelves over the wc in the bathroom for our toileteries etc. The small window shelf cannot hold any such items to my cost!!! We will be staying here again later this year, hopefully the said items can be corrected in time.
Had a lovely stay at the cottage & found it very quaint & cosy. It was lovely & warm. Kitchen very basic & outdoor space could be nicer but did not matter to me as hadn't planned on cooking whilst I was there & was too cold to sit outside. Beautiful location & would stay again.

Mould in kitchen cupboards. Shower screen poor not sealed against bath
Dionne
We really enjoyed our stay, it was warm great wood burner, cosy and comfortable nice towels and bedding. It was basic and a bit datedworn out in terms of decor and kitchen amenities but this didnt stop us having a lovely stay and reminded us of how homes used to be like. I was glad we had our Christmas Day lunch booked locally as the kitchen would not have had the capacity to cook anything more than basic cooking. The cooker could do with a professional clean.
No. 4 Percy Cottage is a lovely, warm and comfortable cottage. The bedding and towels were beautiful and well maintained. We found everything to our liking but we did find the kitchen very basic. However, this didnt have a detrimental effect on our holiday whatsoever and we certainly wouldnt hesitate in booking this cottage again. It is also ideally situated for access to the beach.
Elizabeth
We had a lovely stay beds very comfy our dog settled well and we were so near the beach. The lig fire was great and allowed us quality time to just chill. Would ho back again. Only downside was parking near to unload car but alnmouth is always so busy. Thank the owners on our behalf.
A lovely comfortable cottage with everything you need. Kitchen utensils could do with an upgrade, eg the rusty grater, but overall very clean, spacious, and well situated. Parking wasnt too much of a problem out of season, but I can imagine it might be difficult in summer. The helpline was not helpful in terms of knowing the property, they just read the listing details.
Robert
A great little cottage in a great position for the beach and walking. Lots of pubs hotels tea rooms within easy walking distance. Cottage needs a little updating especially in the kitchen but it was well kitted out. Comfortable home and we would happily visit again.
We found the cottage most comfortable it was just as advertised. It was clean and equiped with what we needed for a weeks stay. Over the years we have stopped at Alnmouth many times and this is one of the nicest cottages we have stopped at.Would definitely recommend it.
Andrew
We arrived late on the Saturday with a full shop, to find that the main cooker was broken and replaced with a small counter top oven . Despite constant chasing it took until late Tuesday to fix the cooker. The replacement counter top oven was far from adequate, given we are a family of five. We were not informed of the problem with the cooker prior to arrival so we're not able to make any arrangements for food. It also meant we had to eat out which was expensive and we had to give away food that we had bought beforehand but we're not able to cook. To advise us of the issue before our arrival would have been respectful and appreciated Whilst the upstairs bedrooms were fine, downstairs was less suitable for a family of five. The table was not suitable for 5 people as one person was seated almost under the stairs, and another up against the wall. Whstlt the property was clean, it really needs some updating. There is a lack of any storage for food in the kitchen and the cupboards are old and a little grubby Whilst in a central position in Alnmouth, the details did not make it clear that it was on the main street which can be very busy at times. It is a real shame as it could be a lovely property with a bit of care and updating.
Gerard
Decor and carpets a little bit dated and would be nice if comfortable seating in garden was provided for days when it is nice to sit out and eat. On the whole facilities inside the cottage are comfortable. This was our second stay in this cottage and would have no problem booking again when visiting Alnmouth.
Samantha
Cottage is located on the main high street in Alnmouth. Parking is first come first served which we already knew about. If we decided to visit other parts of the Northumbria coast we would ensure that we returned after 5pm as normally found a space without any problems. The cottage sofas & beds were comfortable, good linens provided & well vacuumed as others have already stated. The property is tired with marks on carpets & walls but mainly in kitchen which I believe maybe due to a leak earlier in the year as noted in previous feedback. Although property is in need of full refurbishment & decoration this did not affect our stay.
Judith
Excellent location. Comfortable cottage with everything we needed for our stay. Good quality linens and plenty of towels provided. The yard at the rear, given a little tlc, would offer a pleasant space to sit in the evening. Parking an issue in Alnmouth as usual though we were not too inconvenienced.
Christina
Property is in a fantastic location. Contrary to other reviews the house was very clean. The decor and kitchen etc. are tired but it was a great house for our needs. The outside space needs a good tidy and garden furniture replacing with enough seats for the number of people the property can sleep.
Fantastic location, a minutes walk from the amazing beach. A lot closer than it says in the cottage notes. Comfortable, relaxing cottage at a good price. We loved our stay. Highly recommend particularly for those who want to be very close for getting onto a beautiful beach.
Stewart
The sofas in the front room, the fridgefreezer, the bedsbeddingtowels were all good. The carpets had been hoovered and the toilets and bathroom panels had been cleaned. The drawers and cupboards were grubby, cluttered and neglected. Everything had to be checked and cleaned before use. The outside space was a disgrace. Parking near the cottage was impossible, and parking spaces in the village as a whole were in short supply.
