Mariners House Reviews

Maxine
Super place. Great position. Very few things to complain about. Better shower in ensuite needed. Tub not. Eating Knives in kitchen not practical. Drawer units difficult to open. Tv confusing. Overall it is a great place. We have been before and hopefully will be back again. We love Alnmouth.
Claire
This apartment not only has location location location but so much more. Its all the little things that add up like it was cold and pouring outside and the heating was on and the apartment was warm when we arrived, it smelt amazing and was super clean. There were logs so we could light the fire and a wee welcome box with biscuits and coffee, etc. The mattresses and pillows were very comfortable and towels were good quality. Being open plan was so nice for our family get together. The best part was watching my daughter totally unwind with a coffee snuggled in the armchair looking out to sea. Just priceless. Thank you. We would love to come back.
Dominic
Weve been coming to Alnmouth for over 30 years and this property has a fantastic location. The seating area outside is just lovely and the property has a good kitchendinerlounge space.
Positives the property has a fantastic situation with views across the golf course and great access to the lovely pubs, shops and walks of Alnmouth. We were lucky with weather and enjoyed sitting out in the front garden enjoying a morning coffee in the sunshine. Our dog also enjoyed being able to have the freedom and sit in the fenced garden. The beds are extremely comfortable and furniture in the living and dining areas seemed new and was comfortable. The property had everything you might want including an air fryer and coffee machine in the kitchen and plenty of kitchen utensils etc. Negative aspects of the stay Cleanliness as other reviews have mentioned the property would benefit from a proper clean. When we arrived there was a note saying the property had been cleaned that day and if there were any specific issues we should call the cleaner and they would return within an hour. Realistically it was late on Friday evening and it would have taken the cleaner several hours to get the house fully cleaned we just wanted to relax after a long drive and didnt want to start calling cleaners specific issues included thick dust on skirting boards cobwebs and thick dust near fridge in kitchen, some crockery and glasses needed re washing and mould on blinds in main bedroom and bathroom. Arrangements for waste there was no information provided about separating recycling and it wasnt obvious where the bins were. I rang the maintenance number in the welcome email and was advised that someone would get back to me with information about rubbish disposal. No one ever did and despite searching we never found any wheelie buns during our stay. In the end we had to store all the rubbish and leave it inside the house when we left. General maintenance and facilities there are a few things that could do with attention loose door handles sticking bathroom door, clock battery gone. Again as other reviews have mentioned there were absolutely no cleaning materials provided not even one single dishwasher tablet or any washing up liquid. I had brought these with me as read the previous reviews but for a property of this price I would expect a small amount to be provided. Finally parking although there is not much the owner can do about this guests who may need close access to the property should be aware that the town gets very busy and the parking in front of the house is usually taken. We were normally able to find a space within 5 minutes walk.
After being 2 times before and good , it was a let down. Weeds, thistles & nettles in garden . Dust , dirty towel left.doors sticking. Sofa dirty. Cobwebs. I had to clean . In dispute with management amount payed was huge . Lawn overgrown. No care been taken , nearly came home . What has gone wrong with this property.vans &skip outside as building work on top flat ongoing. Banging. Nightmare hols
Lesley
Building work still continuing in top flat, we were faced with a full skip in front of us and a portaloo to the side of us which stank in the evenings. This stopped us from sitting outside in the evenings. Very disappointed as I payed a great deal of money for the week and wasn't able to make good use of the garden.
Trevor
This was our fourth visit to the property, but we were disappointed that tstandards have been allowed to slip. Although two single beds in one of the rooms have been replaced there are other items needing replacement, such as tone of the bedside cabinets in teh master bedroom and the coasters in the dining room which have been there forever and look worn and tired. There were no spare bin liners, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets or even a jcloth . The apartment has so much potential but could do with a little investment . Particularly why have two baths but no walk in shower?
Debbie
Mariners is in a fabulous position with the views of the golf course and sea. It is comfortable and the fittings and furnishings are very good. It was generally clean but down the sides of beds and behind the TV was covered in dust and cobwebs so had not been fully cleaned for some time. The vacuum cleaner supplied to leave the house as found was full and not really working and no replacement bags could be found. In general, hire cottages supply a few dishwasher tablets 1 or 2 bin bags a dish cloth and more than 1 loo roll but these were not provided so a shopping trip was needed soon after arrival. The radiators across the whole apartment were intermittent so perhaps some bleeding and balancing is needed. However, even with these few niggles we had a lovely stay and our dogs loved lying out in the front garden watching the world go by.
Andrew
Good property in an excellent location and well equipped. The potential for an excellent rating is impacted by some short sighted rather mean provisions such as one cheap toilet roll in each bedroom, one log for the stove and no cleaning materials self defeating if wish the accommodation left as it was found.
Loved staying at this property. Spacious and comfortable. Location is perfect. Well stocked with crockery, pans etc. Will definitely book again. The only reason I havent left 5 stars is we arrived in the dark to find the house was open. That the key had not be returned to the key safe and was on the kitchen counter. Gave us a bit of a nervous feeling about entering and we couldnt get hold of the agent or owner, given the time, to know why the situation was. We did feed this back to the agent the following day. A few more bin bags and toilet rolls wouldnt go a miss, along with a dish cloth if possible. Always helpful
A fabulous property with everything included for a perfect stay. Beds and lounge furniture very comfortable and kitchen well equipped. The position was ideal for us to explore the beaches and to take a look at the surrounding area. We are keen walkers and were able to walk some of the coastal path. Our dogs also really enjoyed this beautiful property and some lovely long walks. Thank you for providing such a wonderful property.
The owner has clearly lost interest in this property. The bulbs in the cooker hood had not been replaced, knobs were missing from bedside drawers, the glassware was inadequate and random, sheets did not fit the master bed properly. Sykes Cottages Customer Service were also disappointing when called with a query, they could not answer the question, but promised to call back with the answer. Of course, they never did...
Thanku again , lovely place spotless , thanks cleaners . The most delightful updated house in the best viewpoint , second visit . All we needed and more . Cannot find a better position , nice garden sit out point to chat . Alnmouth so unspoilt , red lion a must . Great shop with everything . Shall return x
This was our 4th stay of the year at Mariners House and it always exceeds expectations for comfort amenities and style. We even had sunshine for most of the week. Everything about the property is perfect and Alnmouth and local area have everything we need for a perfect holiday.
Lovely spacious property, dogfriendly, fantastic location opposite beach access, on street parking to the front usually available, garden with useable furniture, woodburner which was very welcome in March, nearby local amenities and activities pubsrestaurantscafes, shop, golf, walks, cycling route, water sports, and easy to locate and checkin. Property was heated on a morning and evening and wellequiped for our stay. Owner provided essentials such as toilet roll, washingup liquid, tea towels, handwash, starter pack of logs, etc. Sadly, upon our arrival we felt the property could have been cleaner. The floor looked in need of a hoovermop and the surfaces were dusty and unclean. There was also a few minor maintainence issues such as handles loosefalling off kitchen units and loose door handles. Also, we had not realised the level of noise we would experience from the up stairs residents. Not the owners fault but worth being mindful of as we were often woken early. Overall, the location was what made our holiday.
Spacious wellequipped apartment with great views. Comfortable, good quality furnishings and very comfy beds. Our second visit here new settee and mattresses I think since last time. Good to see. Only negative was radiator in smallest room wasnt very efficient but room only occupied for a couple of nights and plug in heater sorted issue. Rest of property was very warm.

1. Ive left on the side a range of things that are chipped or broken not by us but are dangerous around kids sharp edges. 2. An already dirty bath mat. 3. We had to replace the batteries in the heating box as it was showing RED and we didnt want to risk the heating going off and onto holiday mode 4. We were left one bin bag, I do find that very stingy. 5. There was no foil. 6. There always used to be washing liquid but that was not there either this year. 7. Airbnb's tend to leave a nice welcome package, one place even left crisps, oil, chocolate etc. You left a stingy set of UHT milk, coffee and some hotel biscuits. 8. 4 rolls of toilet paper that werent even full rolls. 9. No fire kindle or fire lighters 10. Someone has taken the outside bin so we couldnt put the rubbish out. 11. One dog friendly place we stayed in even left toys and treats for the dogs. Again, a nice touch. One white cereal bowl was dropped and smashed Im afraid. Its an expensive week away in Feb so with the nice touches missing, the somewhat patronizing suggestion of putting the dishwasher on the night before when we already miss most of a day with a 10am out and a 4pm entry with zero flexibility on the timings, striping beds etc means it is losing in its comparison to many Airbnb's that we have stayed in. For that money Id suggest a better welcome pack, no patronizing suggestions on the welcome email, be more dog friendly bowls, treats etc and be more flexible on the arrival time if requested.

This is our third year running staying at Mariners House so that in itself speaks volumes. We expect high standards and were disappointed to read some of the reviews. However, these have obviously been acted upon and improvements have been made. I would definitely recommend for a comfortable and relaxing break, it couldnt be in a better location.
Trevor
Pleased to find new sofas since our last visit Lack of cleaning materials
This is the second time we have stayed at this property we love it. Excellent location with fabulous views from the lounge bay windows. New sofas and mattresses are a welcome addition. The property is warm, comfortable, spacious and well furnished. The only change I would make is the addition of a shower cubicle although the shower over the bath is perfectly ok. We had a slight plumbing problem on our first day which was resolved very promptly by NCCC. Im already planning my next stay at this property.
Perfect for what we required. Excellent position. Could do with walk in shower for elderly guests especially since its a ground floor property
Another fantastic stay in this amazing property. Comfy beds, excellent bathrooms and lovely new sofas. Loved having breakfast enjoying the view of the golf course and dunes. Everything was perfect and we had a lovely holiday even the weather was better than our stay in July. Looking forward to our stay at new year.
Perfect, bigger than expected , will be back , view amazing , bedrooms and bathrooms beautiful. Garden seat table great to sit out and chat . Didnt want to leave . The panelling and finish on this house is outstanding . We have been coming to alnmouth for 30yrs , first at this house but it is best with views. Thankyou owners and cleaner . Also for milk and scones. All so happy staying here . Beautiful
For family visitors perhaps a selection of board games would further enhance the experience
Overall excellent, but did have problems with front door lock . The support staff were very helpful and quickly resolved the problem . Shower arrangements could be better . Walkin shower are best for the elderly . Also edge of bath needs treatment for mildew. Overall great apartment and superb site .
Excellent accommodations. Great facilities and beautiful furnishings. We keep coming back !
We love the location of this property, it is just what we wanted. There was plenty of indoor space and the facilities were of a good quality. We would definitely recommend it and will return especially at this time of year.
There is no nicer place to stay in Alnmouth, for its location. A super comfortable, warm and cosy flat with the benefit of a garden too, and so much to watch from the big picture windows. We parked our car on the first day and never moved it! This is our second stay here and it won&rsquot be our last.
Spacious, very well equipped and comfortable accommodation with easy access to the beach.
Excellent location great layout which is great for entertaining with 6 guests. Not cramped and enough space for all
Great views and location, love the chair by the window so you can watch the world go by.
This is a very comfortable well appointed and well equipped flat, everything I expected it to and very comfortable for a winter stay, we will book this flat again, brilliant for getting out onto the beach quickly, and the open plan living certainly enhanced the family visit. The best thing is the proximity to the beach and the open plan style, and level of equipment together with the overall quality if the decor, kitchen and bathrooms
We loved our stay. The view is fabulous and the cottage very well appointed
What a lovely cottage in just about the perfect location in the village. Plenty of room inside for all three generations and a Basset Hound! Our boys loved playing on the driving range across the road using the cottage&rsquos clubs. We were having our sixth visit to Alnmouth using Northumbria Cottages and this cottage is now our favourite!
Great location!
