Barmoor Reviews

Sharon
We stayed at Barmoor in the last week of February. We were very lucky with the weather and had a lovely week this beautiful part of the country. The house is in a great location for walking the coast. Dog friendly with a secure garden for our two retrievers. 2 dog friendly pubs and hotel within a very short walk away and the great beach is about a 1015 minute walk and is also dog friendly as are most of the beaches along this stretch of the coast. The house was lovely and warm with everything you could need. If Im being very picky it could do with a little bit of updating and although clean some areas could have had a bit more attention given to them but overall a lovely house and would stay again.
Richard
A beautiful place to stay. Barmoor is in the lovely village of Embleton and a short walk to a wonderful beach. The house is very well equipped with all you need to make your holiday special. Its comfortable in all respects and all rooms are all a great size. The garden is secure so good for dogs. Definitely a place to return to as soon as much to see and do.
Barmoor Embleton Lovely cottage in a great location within walking distance of our favourite beach, Embleton Bay. Barmoor is a clean, spacious and comfortable property and has one of the best equipped kitchens weve stayed in. Christmas decorations were a nice touch for the festive period. However, we were disappointed with the heating and hot water systems although the house was warm on arrival there was no heating or hot water after 8pm on our first night. It would be helpful to provide instructions on how to override the settings rather than requesting guests NOT to touch controls, this is common in other holiday lets in the area. We reported the hot water issue to the letting company, they responded promptly but just altered the settings and advised the hot water should be set to constant. This improved the situation slightly but the system still seemed to struggle to cope with the demand of 3 adults bathingshowering in the evening, particularly when the heating was still on. We have not experienced these issues before despite staying in properties with oil or electric heating systems. Although we still enjoyed our week at Barmoor it was disappointing to have this issue given the price paid.
Gillian
A very well equipped cozy cottage. We took logs for the log burner bit didn't need to use it as it was so nice and warm. An ideal base to explore the lovely coast.
Very clean, smelt lovely when we walked through the door. Plenty of utensils and other equipment to use. Beds and furniture good. Great location, a few minutes walk from the local shops, pub and hotel. 10 minute walk to the nearest beach centrally located for explring the Northumberland coast. Secure garden for our dog.
Lovely cottage in the perfect location to explore the NE coastline. As we have a dog, most holidays are in similar cottages and this is definitely the best equipped one weve stayed in. Everything you could need in the kitchen, enough dishwasher tablets for the week plenty of hangars and storage space to make it home from home and lots of little extras like a hot water bottle and games and jigsaws for when the weather is less than optimal. Good shower and nice to have the bath option. Cant vouch for heating as we didnt need it! The sofas are lower than Id choose but comfy otherwise and fine for a week. Whole house very spacious. The secure garden was great for the dog and nice to sit in after a run down to the beach. The shop deli is well stocked and open 85 most days for essentials as well as treats. The hotel pub does very good food and the coffee down at the golf club was a nice stop. Quiet beach compared to Devon! and lovely walks to Craster for lunch and the other direction to the Ship Inn. Lots of convenient walks for the dog round the village including the little nature reserve. Very cheap fuel at the garage too! Easy visits to Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and Hadrians wall. We had originally planned to stay in Seahouses but very glad we found Barmoor instead. Will definitely be back.
Fantastic property great location
Heather
A very comfy, clean cottage in a quiet area. Kitchen well equipped, comfortable bed, lovely decor everywhere. Safe garden for our 2 dogs which is always a 'must ' for us.
Overall we had a lovely stay at Barmoor, its situated in a picturesque village and is very quiet and peaceful, just what we wanted. Facilities for our dog were very good with the enclosed garden and nearby walks. The accommodation is very well equipped but the only problem we had was the DVD player didnt work in that there was no connection cable to the TV, the only cable was the power cable, so we couldnt use this facility which was a shame as we had brought our own DVDs to watch. We seem to be jinxed re Sykes Cottages with DVD players, this is the third one whereby we couldnt use it, the last two players were advertised but were not in the property We would definitely stay at Barmoor again if we were in that area of Northumberland. It has a lovely beach well within walking distance and is a good base for the surrounding areas attractions.
Angela
A lovely spacious property, located close to the beautiful Embleton bay. Just a totter to the fantastic Grey's Inn and a short beach walk to the Ship Inn.
Suzanne
Third time at Barmoor. Lovely cottage and very homely. There are some great walks directly from the cottage. One very small comment about comfort is that the sofas are very low but this is just our preference. Ideal size for four adults. Sadly no dog with us this holiday but its also ideal for a dog.
Great place to stay. Central for many coastal walks. Highly recommend.
Rachel
We had a great stay at Barmoor. The cottage was lovely, clean, relaxing, the decor and furnishings were very nice, a home from home. Will book again.
Loved staying at Barmoor. Embleton is a beautiful village. The cottage was very, very clean and toasty warm on arrival. It provided everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and it was great to have the secure garden. We really did enjoy our stay here and hope to return next September 0
Cottage was good. Positives All amenities working and in good order. Bed comfy and furniture comfy. Plenty of towels etc. Plenty of crockery and utensils. Location great, tucked down little used road in village. Enclosed garden for dog. Greys Inn in village was great for food and drink. Beach half a mile walk. Lovely walks to Craster and Low Newton along beach. Beautiful area. Some negatives No welcome pack, not even a pint of milk. Disappointed for price paid as did not seem very welcoming. However other things such as toilet rolls, dishwasher tabs and washing up liquid provided. Garden lawn was full of dog waste, appreciate this is from previous guests who should have sorted, but owner should have checked. Lid on kitchen bin not popping up so had to wrangle with bin each time to open. Needs pedal bin so dont have to touch. Kettle needs descale or replacement. TV is very small in todays standards. Overall we had a good stay and would come again

Great property is a great location to explore Northumberland we liked it so much we have booked for next year already.
Damien
Our second time at Barmoor and it's still such a lovely property, ideally situated to explore the lovely village and beach. We enjoyed some beautiful weather and had the opportunity to enjoy some time on the gorgeous beaches at Embleton, Alnmouth and Beadnell. Strong recommendation for Embers woodfired pizza, absolutely delicious! The only minor quibble would be the lack of oven gloves at the cottage.
Holger
Very conveniently located at the coast with Alnwik and Berwik near by. One hotelrestaurant, a farm shop and two pubs in walking distance. We two persons! enjoyed the stay and didn't miss anything.
Very clean on arrival, garden secure for dogs. Liked watching the birds. There were very clear instructions not to touch the boiler settings, but we would have liked to turn the heating off as it the weather was warm. We turned down the thermostats on the radiators we could but the hall radiators were still hot and made the house uncomfortably warm so we had to open the windows. We tried to adjust using the thermostat in the living room but it made no difference. Instructions on how to turn the heating off would be good. With entry after 4pm and the only shop in the village shutting at 5 it would be good to get a welcome pack, even just milk and bread. A barbecue would also be good. Sorry we forgot to empty the bins, and I meant to write in the maintenance log that the vacuum cleaner bag needs emptied. The maintenance log is a great idea, I've not seen that in any other properties I've stayed in. Great location, lovely house, we would stay again.

A lovely home from home in a most beautiful setting. Looking forward to returning next year.
Kirsty
Fantastic set up everything we needed and very comfortable. Think the change of hour had not been caught for the boiler as we struggled for hot water if we were up early before 8am but the water was otherwise piping hot! Also, small thing, consider putting the TV on an arm rather than fixed to the wall so it can be seen from the second sofa. It is worth mentioning in your write up about the property and surrounding area that there are 4 council operated EV chargers about 300 yds from the property and were perfect for our needs whilst we were away extremely convenient and relatively economical from the usual public charging rates. Greys Inn nearby very welcoming and where the locals go. Beach is very clean and expansive. Great time had by all.
Barmoor exceeded our expectations , the location was great, having a view across fields and on the edge of the village but within a two minute walk to either the village pub or hotel , and less than 10 minutes onto the beach. It had everything required for our stay , good heating , TV, fully equipped kitchen . The bathroom is large with a good shower and separate bath . Living room is a good size with comfy sofas .
Allison
We had a lovely relaxing stay ,beautiful quiet location. Property reasonably well stocked.Lounge lovely and cosy with great new sofas. Easy walk to pubs and lovely stroll to beach.Area is just beautiful and you can access lots of places by foot or car Comfortable for 4 adults and dogs Nice and warm too . Would reccomend. We will definitely be back Only real negatives Needs outside lighting to work at back of property and radiator in bedroom very noisy early morning.
Michael
Property is a home from home, comfortable, warm and welcoming.
Eileen
This is our 5th time weve stayed here and it will be our last! ! Tile grouting and seals in shower cubicle are dirty, making having a shower not nice. Windows needed washed, I could go on but it wont get me anywhere!
We holiday. In Northumberland at least twice a year and Embleton is by far our favourite place to base ourselves, great walks and places to eat right on the doorstep. Barmoor is a great cottage, well equipped ,really clean a great secure garden for our dog. It was extremely cold with lots of snow while we were there and the log burner was so welcome. Has a great bathroom and very comfortable beds, if theres anything I would change it would be the sofas as theyre not the comfiest but that definitely wouldnt stop us returning to Barmoor. A real gem of a cottage and would highly recommend.
Very warm, cosy and well equipped cottage. Ideal location .
Philip
Second stay and very enjoyable. Would really appreciate some tea, coffee and milk provided on arrival. Excellent location and safe garden for the dog.
We had a wonderful stay at Barmoor. The house is a home from home and so clean and welcoming. In a great location, close to Dunstanburgh Hotel where we had a lovely meal. Recommend booking a table here especially if a dog owner. A 5 minute walk to The Greys Inn, with a very welcoming landlady. A lovely local pub and amazing food. Embleton Bay is a 15 minute walk away to a beautiful beach, where you can walk to Low Newton by Sea and visit The Ship Inn and just sit outside and watch the world go by. The house was perfect for us and we will definitely be returning.
Angela
We found Barmoor to be very clean, cosy and comfortable. The beds were great too, so we slept well. It is well equipped, making it easy to prepare meals, but also very close to good dining options a few minutes walk away, so you have the best of both worlds. We ate at both the local hotel and the pub, and found them to be excellent. Barmoor is convenient for the village and the amazing beach at Embleton our lab had a brilliant time too!. It is also well placed to easily access the other wonderful places on the coast, as well as lovely towns like Alnwick. We definitely recommend this holiday cottage, and would book again if we return to the area. Our week was for a small family gettogether. We had a fantastic time. Thank you!
Gillian
A great cottage with all the facilities you need for a smooth stay plenty of utensils in the kitchen, a great information pack, comfy beds and a hairdryer. Embleton is a lovely quiet village with a super village shop, a couple of great dog friendly pubs and is a good base for all parts of the Northumberland coastline.
Caroline
Excellent stay at Barmoor, house was well equipped, very clean and comfortable, couldnt fault it at all. Very pleased that there was extra netting on the bottom of the drive gates that kept the garden secure for our two mini dachshunds. Embleton is ideally placed for exploring other nearby coastal villages and excellent food can be had at The Greys and the Dunstaburgh Hotel. Would definitely recommend.
Lovely property ideally located in embleton. Pubs, shop and beach within easy reach. Clean, comfortable cottage in a quiet setting. The cottage has it's own parking and an enclosed garden which is ideal to sit out in.
Nicola
Barmoor continues to be a secret gem by the sea. It's relaxed, unpretentious decor, with all the practical things you need, mean you immediately chill on holiday. Beds and linen are very comfortable. Occupying a quiet location in Embleton village allows for a sense of privacy, yet with a short stroll to lovely pubs and restaurants.
One of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in. Cosy, comfortable, well equipped and close to the beach and coast paths. Both us and the dogs had a great week!
