Absolutely perfect.

Super location, lovely building. Perfect facilities for a holiday visit. Could do with a few more homely features, curtains in lounge blinds are a bit stark in the winter, blinds on windows in kitchen and front door. No focal fireplace in the lounge, and rather harsh lighting. Maybe these features are not as important in the summer months, but on a cold January night any cosiness would help.

S lovely place to stay well equipped thought out even a welcome pack with delicious biscuits. It was very comfortable & I managed to use the oven OK . I'm used to gas oven & hob. I bought a inside bath mat as the one supplied in the drawer didn't look nice very dirty but the new one goes well in the bathroom. Clothes airer is outside so I didn't use it & left it were it was . Everything else was perfect & we hope to be back as soon as possible.
This place has buckets of potential but it isnt maxed out. If you just want somewhere close to town, thats dog friendly with an enclosed garden, its ideal only a quick walk in and out and everything wipe cleanable. Its really well stocked too you can just turn up with your bag and crack on. But, if you want a cosy retreat this isnt the one. Reference to the mattresses in the previous reviews were accurate for us they werent comfortable. I know its dog friendly but the carpet in the bedrooms hadnt been hoovered. Im not sure thats a reasonable expectation. The lounge is functional but not comfortable. The layout is awkward, granted but the two seater sofa is the only way to relax and with two of you staying there, theres not much personal space. There is only main lighting, no fireplace I appreciate they are all details but this isnt consistent with other thoughtful details like books and jigsaws. You just wouldnt relax there. The shower head needs replacing too or at least descaling. It was all a bit stark and so disappointing.

The extractor fan in the bathroom was making odd noises from the start of our holiday and looked to be clogged with dust. 2 days in it stopped working which meant a lot of humidity following 4 showers each morning. This was leading to some green staining on the floor from drips off the radiator fittings The toilet holder needs to be re fixed to the wall as it was hanging off from the start of our stay. Both these things were reported to NCCC when they checked in on us in the first day. The garden, was a nice place to sit out and we were very fortunate with the weather so were able to use the BBQ which was in great condition. The kitchen was good with enough pots, pans, plates and utensils. The coffee grinder was an unexpected suprise, and while there was a mokka pot, a cafatiere would be useful. The location of the villa is great, easy access to the town centre, castle gardens, a handy Lidl and local walking paths into and around the town.
Has what is required for dog friendly property ie secure garden, dog friendly floor, needed when near beaches. Ideal spot for the area very easy parking. Third visit
The Lodge is in a good quiet location, walking distance to the centre of Alnwick and all of its amenities. We really enjoyed our stay and would come again, however the property does need a Spring Clean to bring it up to a good standard and the double bed mattress definitely needs replacing. Please get the bins outside cleaned, the bird poo on top of them is not good and also clean the outside table before the spring as that was covered in bird poo as well!!!!
The cottage was bigger than we thought from the photos and well kitted out. It was perfectly situated for exploring Alnwick, especially The Alnwick Gardens which were just across the road. It was also well placed for exploring further afield, with most of our day trips only about 3045 minutes away. We would definitely recommend this cottage to people who want to explore this part of Northumberland.
What an outstanding location right across from the Castle Gardens and the rest of the town well within easy walking distance. Cottage itself has a secure garden essential for the dogs or errant children. Equipped with everything we needed and warm & cosy. Only one criticism the front door window needs a blind or curtains for both privacy and to stop the street light from across the road shining directly into the main bedroom if you sleep with the door open. That said, a black bin bag and some tape situation solved. I would recommend, especially for dog owners you can't take them into the castle gardens but you can use the 'huge' car park next door and the fields just down the road!
Really comfortable place, well equipped and in a great location. Will definitely use again.
Great location. Peaceful. Cottage warm and well maintained. Just lacked a few basics on arrival ie. washing up liquid and hand wash and maybe a bit more info. about the area and local walks. Other than that all was perfect and we had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay.
This property is lovely from the outside and in a great location but that's it. The double bed mattress needs replacing the oven is dirty and so the are the pans. Windows needed a clean inside. There was a film of dirt on the books under the coffee table it needs new cushions on the sofa , a blind on the front door and generally it needs a lick of paint it's looking tired. The heating wouldn't turn off from the thermostate so it was on constantly. So disappointed after paying good money for this property as a birthday treat.
There is no curtain on the front door which allowed a very bright street light to shine directly onto the main bed's pillows. I believe a curtain is essential for this, and also for privacy. Although there was a note stating that the heating in the bedrooms wasn't working the small additional heaters provided were insufficient.

We loved staying in the Lodge and appreciated its modern feel and location. The back garden was a bonus for our dogs. We made special effort to ensure it was left clean. We had snow and it was very cold but appreciated coming back to a warm comfortable home after a day out. As previously mentioned in reviews, the radiator in main bedroom still requires attention. Perhaps some new cushions in the lounge would be more in keeping with the high standard and modern feel of the property. There didnt appear to be a hoover so we used the brush and pan instead. Our booking was very last minute but we were delighted to have found it.
Lovely property. It was very clean and well maintained and near to the centre of Alnwick with all its pubs, restaurants and shops. The Central Heating system programmer was too complicated we just used the Boost Button. Apart from this, we highly recommend The Lodge. it was a beautiful place to stay.
Without a doubt the lodge is a lovely cottage, in a perfect location for walking into town or seeing the local area. The cleanliness however leaves a lot to be desired. Dusty paintwork, cobwebs on light fittings, bulbs that needreplacing, a television in the second bedroom which doesnt work, a radiator in the main bedroom not working and a dangerous mobile radiator with a wheel missing. The worst problem was a free standing mirror which fell at a touch, just missing our small dog. Because of allergies I always use my own sheets and towels when Im away. Imagine our surprise when taking the sheets from what looked like a nice clean bed only to discover a mattress protector which obviously hadnt been changed for quite some time from the amount of bodily fluid stains which we found. Disgusting! This was replaced after a phone call. We did report this and more to the agent in Seahouses who said they would look into the problem. We have used Northumbrian cottages a number of times without any problems and know they will take our complaint very seriously. mobile radiator
The location is very good quiet but wit easy walking distance from Alnwick centre and short drives to coastal ports and beaches. The building has great character from outside but interior is bland, and the deep reveals on small windows together with nearby trees on all sides meant natural light was poor. Equipment provided was good quality and in ample amounts, with good supplies of soap, dishwasher tablet etc However on arrival a burglar alarm set off, not mentioned on information we were sent, nor known by the agent we phoned, however eventually found the code on page 10 of the information folder to switch it off. . Some oil filled radiators were in place seemingly from a central store and the gas radiators were not working, and no heat in the bathroom . As the weather cooled mid week we explored the boiler controls to find it had been set to hot water only. It was easy to change to get proper heat, including the bathroom. 2 out of 3 light bulbs in one bedroom were not working and no spares could be found. One toilet roll for a week seemed mean

We had a great time visiting Alnwick and surrounding places. The Lodge is a lovely building in a beautiful setting and its location was ideal for our visit. The Lodge is well equipped and comfortable however a few changes, if implemented, would raise the bar still further. A new mattress would improve the comfort in the double bedroom. Some attention to details would be of benefit e.g. upon our arrival there were a few cobwebs in evidence, in mitigation the Lodge is in a wooded location and the time of year dives spiders indoors. Would we visit Alnwick and again stay at the Lodge definitely, had a fab time. Thank you.
I originally booked this reading the reviews and they were really good but a few months before we went the reviews were a bit concerning about cleanliness, I thought these reviews would be noted and sorted. The actual property was amazing I cant fault that but it wasnt amazingly clean and to top it all off when we were leaving and I was stripping beds theres was stains on the mattress cover this just isnt acceptable. It has the potential to be a 5 property but unfortunately it isnt atm. Also no blinds in hall or kitchen which was a bit strange as well. Little touches could make this place perfect.
Logde was fantastic location was fantastic everyone enjoyed it . Only thing need a new mattress in the double room very softaswell. Only thing that was missing on arrival in the lodwas toilet roll none left by cleaning company.
Location was very good. Sadly though, the property was let down by lack of cleaning, ovenoven trays were too dirty for us to use, skirting boards were very dirty in places, trim at bottom of shower screen is very dirty, there was what looked like a bit of a dog chew under the table, vacuum cleaner only works when it wants to, one of the portable radiators has a wheel missing. Food had been left in cupboards and freezer, wheelie bin was full. Potential to be a first class let, but over priced in the current state.
Graham
The positives are location which is fabulous lots of lovely walks from the door. This place could be even more fabulous if they replaced the double bed, vaxed the carpets and gave it a deep clean and emulsion. None of this would cost much but would transform it to look its best. The cleaners do the all they can in the time allowed, but this does not leave time to properly sort it. There is everything in the property you could possibly need and the enclosed garden is a treat.
Christine
Excellent accommodation couldnt fault it thank you
Michael
Lovely well maintained property very clean and hospitable. Very nice location next to Alnwick Gardens and only 2 mins walk into the town center. Great shower and the whole property was lovely and warm. Looks great both outside and in! My only minor complaint is that the beds are very soft though I realize this is a personal preference!
Lindsay
Great location , easy walking distance into Alnwick town centre, Alnwick Garden and Barters Books. The Lodge is a super holiday cottage, comfortable and well equipped good quality matching crockery, nice linens, towels etc. We had warm sunshine for the first 4 days of our stay, so no central heating required but the final few days was much cooler and we noticed the radiator in the main bedroom only came on briefly at 4am, but not sure about the others! As other guests have mentioned, the heating system can be a challenge even after reading the instructions, as not all radiators came on the one in the hall never got warm, when all others did. Until we had mastered the instructions, we were very grateful for the electric supplementary heaters which were provided. Maybe the central heating system needs balancingvalves checked? We would be very happy to return to The Lodge during the summer months, it more than measured up to expectations and how lovely is Northumberland in the sunshine!
The bed mattress was awful no substance to it We slept badly with no comfort . We liked the lodge it was ideal for what we needed .
Lesley
Lovey cottage. Very clean and tastefully decorated. Minor probem in that the kettle didn't work, but otherwise a great stay.
This is the 2nd time we have stayed in this property. It is in a good location, central to the town & within easy reach of beaches etc. The property is comfortable & well equipped. Unfortunately it still has a heating problem with only 3 out of the 6 radiators working effectively. This was an issue when we stayed 2 years ago & was highlighted in a review 12 months ago but still has not been rectified. I struggle to understand why because in winter it detracts from your enjoyment of the property & will lead me to seek alternatives in the future.
This is a lovely lodge centrally located close to Castle and gardens, shops and restaurants. Ideal for short or a long stay
Second stay here this year. Great location for Alnwick centre and the beaches. The only things to maybe mention so it can be checked was the radiator in the main living room and Hallway only got luke warm but all the others got very hot also the main fuse blew once when using the grilloven etc but everything else was spot on tbh.
Sharon
Fantastic location for exploring Northumberland with only being a few minutes drive to the A1. Walking distance into Alnwick and lots of supermarkets close by for provisions. We had a lovely week with our two dogs and didnt want to come home. We would stay here again. It had everything we needed.
George
Fabulous little cottage in a great location for Alnwick and Northumberland as a whole. For anyone reading earlier reviews, the heating now works well and was cosy for our November stay. There is plenty of parking and a fully enclosed garden which can be secured if you take a pair of padlocks one for each gate in the event you take bicycles or the like.
An excellent, cosy property that was full of character. So handy for everything in Alnwick and convenient for getting around. Loved our stay!
Well maintained property, in a great location for exploring Alnwick and the wider area
We were visiting with dogs and it was good Garden was dog proof not always the case and floors also suitable saving the worry of dogs who had been on the beach. Also the fact that all electric equipment had working instructions often a problem in some properties.
Melanie
Pictures are misleading as to location. Property is beside a noisy building site with construction vehicles parking outside and on the edge of a housing estate. Dirty marks on several walls disappointing that care was not taken to make sure it was well presented. Garden a bit neglected too. On a positive nice clean towels and beds, we enjoyed the area. Look out for the red squirrel that walks along the wall
