The Beach House Reviews

Michelle
We stayed in The Beach House over Christmas and New Years and found it one of the best holiday homes weve stayed in out of many. Arriving at dark after a very long drive to find the house clean and warm was very welcoming! Also great to have the parking space so we didnt have to drive around looking for one. Although dogs are allowed we didnt notice any evidence that dogs had been there, which told us the house is thoroughly cleaned. The layout of the property worked very well, and we felt the house was even better in person than in the photos. The different seating areas included plenty of space for six people to spread out or get together. The many large windows let in a lot of light and no cold air. The beds were very comfortable, and the showers were great. The kitchendining area meant the cooks could join in with conversations, and we were glad we could close this area off so cooking smells and loud conversations didnt carry through the rest of the house. The kitchen was well stocked, items previous reviewers requested have been added. There is a filter coffee machine which we did not use and a small cafetiere. The conservatory off the kitchen was useful as a separate space where we could do laundry the washing machine was clean and worked very well, and store bottles for recycling. There is a small clothes horse. A larger one, or a second one would be quite useful. A bulb in a wall light went while we were there and Northumbria Cottages quickly sent someone around with a bulb, even though we said it wasnt urgent. A repair in the kitchen was sorted equally efficiently by the owners and Northumbria Cottages. We would be delighted to rent this property again because the house was comfortable and suited our needs and the management was efficient and friendly.

A very well located and well furnished house with beautiful views over the estuary. . The master bedroom is superb spacious and with stunning views. The other two bedrooms are very small. We had the usual minor problems the electric fire in the living room seemed not to work the instructions for the central heating did not make sense. However we also had a major problem one mentioned in an earlier review in Dec 2024 flies by the hundred. Sally's Cottages helped but our holiday enjoyment was certainly reduced.

This is a lovely house with fantastic views over the estuary. The property was clean, comfortable and functional and it was great to have a parking space. We have stayed in many 3 bedroom cottages in Alnmouth and this is our favourite. There were a few, very minor problems. The kitchen was very well equipped with crockery but lacked some essentials as mentioned in other reviews masher, grater, large frying pan, casserole dish, salad bowl. It would also be useful to have an instructions file, particularly for the heating and the micro wave. And for oldies like ourselves, a quick guide on how to use the television!! Hooks in the bedrooms and bathrooms would also help functionality. But all in all, a wonderful light and spacious cottage.
Brilliant house with private parking in a prime spot with fabulous views overlooking beach and estuary. Great birdwatching from the conservatory. Comfortable bed, great shower and bath, and very well equipped and clean. Only one very minor downside was outside the property was temporary parking and lots of visitors who could see straight into living room but as we were out walking all day this didnt bother us. Would recommend to anyone.
Lovely place to stay with great views. Love the side way in so if you have a wetdirty dog there is a way in so they can be cleaned down in there own room off the kitchen. The cooker hood was very greasey and dirty, not been cleaned for a long time. Down stairs loo seat was very loose. Two lamps needed 2 new bulbs in them, 1 in the double bed room on the dressing table and the other by the telephone in the snug. The electric fire in the front roon did not work due to it had no plug on the end of the wire, so what is the point of it, it would be nice to have the effect on in a evening . A welcome pack would be nice with milk, tea, coffee and sugar in it,
Rebecca
This is a delightful holiday home spectacularly sited on the Aln estuary. The house is incredibly comfortable and spacious and a wonderful place for bird watchers. There are views out of nearly every window which changed several times a day with the tide. The village is gorgeous, the beach stupendous and the nearby town of Alnwick has a range of shops and eateries. A few suggestions for improvement. Dogs are allowed and Id just suggest that more cleaning is required because of this there was sometimes a doggy smell, particularly coming from the hoover which hadnt been emptied properly. There were a few things missing from the kitchen including a grater and a potato masher. The bulb in the shower ensuite wasn't working which made it very dark and a bit depressing in there. More hooks in the bedrooms and bathrooms for towels and a better airer for drying clothes. The one provided was not sufficient.
Penelope
A taller drying rack for wet outdoor gear no bedside table or lamp in one bedroom , and one broken lamp in double bedroom. In sufficient space for drying bath towels in shared bathroom, and no towel rail at all in end bedroom ensuite. Kitchen knives too blunt to cut anything. A double cafetiere would be nice. Backroom downstairs window broken so unshuttable. otherwise a lovely stay
Absolutely fantastic house with open views of the estuary. Had a wonderful stay but have to confess to irritation when large camper vans park opposite over night and blocked the view.

We loved the location of the Beach House. Here is our true and honest feedback, please note that the work in progress points would not stop us booking again and is to only highlight that if these issues were corrected it would enhance future guests experience. Good points Location Amazing sea views from everywhere. Very warm and comfortable Lots of equipment Beds wonderfully comfortable and great quality duvets Work in progress points Flies There was dead and live flies in the house everyday, considering it was December we had no idea where they were coming from. We did report this. Fire The flame effect fire did not work. The house was wonderfully warm, so for heat this was not a problem, but it would have been lovely for ambiance. Cobwebs and attention to detail to housekeeping. The house was clean so this is just a comment to get the housekeeper to look up and under curtains as we found sweets on floor and many cobwebs on the ceiling, as well as about twenty dead flies on the floor by front door when we first arrived. No hand soap in the toilets This would have been really useful for cleanliness The curtains in the leaving room did not close. The bracket on the curtain rail stopped the curtains. No Christmas decorations Whilst this was not advertised, everywhere else we have stayed in mid December put up a tree and this would be a lovely touch. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Fabulous location with the bonus of having a parking space. Large comfortable house and a garden too, which was nice to sit out in with breakfast as the weather was good. Lots of rooms downstairs for relaxing in, if you've a large family and want a quiet place to read, you'll find one! Neutral decor throughout the house but the views out of the windows at the front are very special. The ONLY negative was the small window in the downstairs loo was broken and wouldn't close, but that's just nitpicking and can very easily be repaired. Really loved our stay and will absolutely return!
This was the best holiday house we have stayed in and we loved our stay and hope to book again in the future. The house was exceptionally well located and well urnished with a real homely feel. It was spotless when we arrived. The beds were comfortable, the towels and bed linen very fresh and the living areas were very comfortable. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped we brought a few extra things with us and very spacious. It was helpful to have the covered utility area. Some additional instructions re using the microwave, gas hob, dishwasher and TV would have been helpful. Not everyone has the same systems and the last thing you want to do in someone else's house is to start pressing random buttons on appliances. Similarly up to date information about buses and taxis would have been useful. The information file was a bit thin. Not everyone is comfortable using the internet. But these are very minor things that did not detract from a super holiday in a beautiful house. We look forward to booking again.
Samantha
Hello, a really lovely stay, fantastic comfy house. Just a few things you may want to be aware of. We were unable to put anything in the blue bin as it was full with glass, we took our glass home with us, we left carboard recycling just inside the front door. The fire in the living room, we couldnt get the heat on option to work. The Remote for heating system was missing. The bath plug was not working, it would not hold the water in the bath and the bath panel is commong off. A couple of toilet holders are loose. Light above shower head popped out in the main bedroom The Toilet cistern running randomly in the main bedroom ensuite The Binoculars in the lounge are broken The China pot in the main bedroom is broken No light bulbs in bedside table lamps in the main bedroom
Location is amazing. Right on the estuary. You can sit back and watch the tide come in and go out in comfort. Its so peaceful and quiet. Time is forgotten. House is big, modern and comfortable. Felt like a home from home, loads of lovely touches. Garden area small but cute and you dont need it as you have a huge beach on your doorstep. Off road parking for 1 car, multiple free spaces outside of the property, albeit it does get busy but people move on quickly. WIFI was decent, sky tv, really good heating. Main bed comfortable, cant comment on others. Shower in main bathroom strong. Plenty of towels provided. Only constructive feedback is that it could do with a good deep clean as lots of dog hairs and dust but get that its a busy property with minimal turn around time. Bathrooms and kitchen were spotless. Could do with some decorating in some areas too living room wall fireplace but this is minor and did not impact our stay at all. We would 100 come back here. It really is a beautiful home and we could relax in peace and quiet.
Fantastic house once we had ironed out a few of the issues around working the heatingtv sure this could be addressed with some sort of instructions. Really comfortable and spacious living areas. Comfortable bedrooms. Parking space a bonus. Please replace the broken scissors and bottle opener whats the point of keeping them in the draws?
Heather
Weather grim not your fault but spent whole weekend trying to get fire working. Your office knew and should have left note in cottage to that effect. Not a scrap of soap, liquid or otherwise, in building. Also not everyone uses 2 controls to get tv on so written instructions would have helped.
Robert
1. There was no WiFi passcode provided in the house's folder. We contacted Northumbria Cottages on the Friday evening of our arrival. After chasing them 3 times, we were eventually got a resolution on the following Wednesday. I cannot understand why is wasn't in the house in the first place and why it took 5 days to sort it out. Disgraceful. 2. We reported that the terrace was overgrown and needed attention sometime in the first week. No action was taken nor were we contacted about it. Equally disgraceful. We have been very happy with Northumbria Cottages in previous years but they seem to have lost the plot. To be avoided....
Patricia
The property was in a really good position in Alnmouth. Views of the estuary were stunning. Very nicely decorated and very comfortable and stylish. Great to have some outside space and a parking space too. There were a couple of issues which began to be dealt with having visited Northumbria Coast and country cottages. It would have been useful to know Sykes own this company, so we could have dealt with them locally. Altogether a great property and hope to visit again.p
Brenda
This is a wonderful property for views, position and comfort and we truly enjoyed it and hope to book it again next year! There were a couple of things that could be improved, however. The timetable in the folder for refuse collection was a year out of date and we couldnt get the freezer to work. Didnt bother us, as we didnt have serious need, but we wondered if it had iced up and jammed the fan.
