Longhoughton is a fabulous, friendly village. It is very well located for beautiful Northumberland attractions. The Running Fox is a lovely place for a treat but an absolute must for a visit is Company B it is exceptional and a real treasure. SugarSands House is well situated alongside attractive, modern houses. It was very clean, wellequipped and comfortable. I had a restful break. Neighbours were helpful and kind. Craig, the owner, was quick to respond to a couple of queries.

This was a great find perfect location, just ten minutes out of Alnwick and deep in the country everything we needed for a trip away and a nice, clean and well kept cottage. We love Northumberland and this was a great base for exploring the area and going on nice walks with the dogs. Parking was great and the village was nice and quiet but with a well stocked Coop a couple of minutes away. For the owners only the place could do with a lick of paint in a few areas but it wasn't scuffy by any means. We are sure to return.
Lovely well presented and maintained property on the Northumberland coastline. Everything you need for a relaxing break. Running fox for afternoon teas literally 150 meters away, local coop shop 150 meters over the road. Nice walks to boulmer, Howick, Craster on your doorstep. Highly recommend this property.
Adrian
Lovely place clean & tidy in a nice quiet area close to beaches & other villages & towns. Definitely one to come back to when in the area. Adrian.
This was our 3rd visit to sugar sands, and we have already booked for next year, we can not fault anything about this accommodation, it feels like a home away from home, beaches are fantastic, all within a short drive away. Everything you could possibly need is there for you.
Excellent place to stay, comfortable clean property within easy reach of beaches and places of interest
Andrew
Extremely warm and cosy. Cottage. It's location was ideal for exploring in all directions. This ticked all our boxes and highly recommend as a great place to stay.
We enjoyed our stay very much and loved the location as it was central for getting to all the places we like to go to. The tv was frustrating as it kept going off so we stopped using it apart from dvds. There was only two of us and we found the main bed very comfortable indeed.
We visit Northumberland several times a year and this was our first stay in Sugar Sands and it did not disappoint! A well positioned and well equipped property that was clean and comfortable in a quiet location. A couple of things that would make the property even better would be to have privacy blinds in the bathrooms and blackout blinds in the bedrooms as the street lights directly outside the house are very bright and facing towards the windows, however, we will definitely return!
Trevor
Very happy with the location as most beaches and facilities were a short drive away. The property is well proportioned with lots of room.a bit tight to park at the rear of the house as next door dont park with you in mind but we parked in front of the garage.but all in all very nice weeks stay.
Graham
We were disappointed with the cleanliness didn't seem like it had been cleaned properly. Also there are a few things that need fixing like the curtain pole in the living room that falls down if you draw the curtains. Garden also needs tending as there were long brambles that needed cutting back which we tried to do with scissors to prevent our grandchild from getting hurt. The house itself is OK but seems like it needs some TLC.
Excellent. House. Great location and very spacious. Tv a bit complex need instructions to find terrestrial Tv
We had an absolutely fantastic family getaway at Sugar Sands. The communication from Craig and Anna was first class, with plenty of info and a real effort made to make our stay comfortable. The location is great, on a quiet residential area that is a perfect base for exploring the Northumberland coast. As well as a local shop youve got two excellent choices for breakfast Company B could not have been friendlier and theyre well worth a visit, while Running Fox is the sort of place you wish you could teleport home the cakes and pies are dreamy. The beach is an easy walk, plus youve got plenty of other super spots to seek out nearby Amble, Warkworth, Craster, Alnmouth, Alnwick are all within 1520mins drive, and the bus stop in Longhoughton is just around the corner, too. The house was super cosy and comfortable with everything you need for a getaway we even had a lovely chat or two with the neighbours it really feels like a home away from home! Thanks for a wonderful stay!
Lovely house in a perfect setting for exploring Northumberland.
Amazing cottage. . we had 4 adults and stayed comfortably here. Very clean when we arrived! Had an issue where the tv broke but Craig came personally to put a new one in.. very responsive when we contacted him. Only thing was the 2nd bedroom could do with a new mattress which would make it more comfortable apart from that was a perfect week and couldnt ask for more. Parking is perfect and the area is so quiet.. coop down the road and a gorgeous cafe down the road.. highly recommend Craig and Annas cottage its a real treat
Lovely property and would not hesitate to book again.
We met the owners, Anna and Craig, upon arrival as they were tidying the garden, what a super friendly couple. The house met all our expectations. Its very light and airy, lovely and warm and the beds are so comfy. The back garden, although small, met our and our dogs needs perfectly. Lots of walks from the doorstep and very useful to have a local Coop just around the corner. Easy to access from the A1 and situated on the Coastal Road, what more could you want? Finally, John, the neighbour, is great such an interesting and knowledgeable chap. Will we go back? You bet we will!
Claire
Lovely house in a quiet village. It was quite cosy with 6 of us, but we managed. Found the oven knobs got extremely hot if you were using the grill and had to leave the oven door slightly ajar. The kitchen is very well equipped and has everything you need. Outside could do with a tidy up and the guttering on the roof needs cleaning out. Lots of information about the local area in the hallway. The local Coop is very handy and its easy to get to the bigger shops in Alnwick. Games, jigsaws and DVDs are all nice extras. Craig had even put a Christmas tree and some decorations up in the living room. Lovely sea view from the back bedroom.
Warm, comfortable and great location for exploring the area.
Another great week away with our labradors, who hate the fireworks, this area did not dissapoint, never heard one. We will definitely be back again !!
Great location. Very good facilities. Ease of booking. Need a better bed currently a camp bed for 6 adults, 2 more arm chairs in lounge would benefit comfort for all. Would highly recommend.
Perfect property. Really enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended.
Christine
We had a lovely week at Sugar Sands. The house is well equipped and having a third toilet downstairs was a real bonus especially when we had 6 adults for part of the week. It is perfectly positioned to see many beautiful places. Our longest drive was 40 minutes to Holy Island. The beaches are spectacular. The local one, a short drive but with a paying car park was a 40 minute walk away. Perfect for a dog walk and swim! The garden is perfect for a dog and the downstairs is fully laminate flooring so easy to keep clean. The local Coop is very convenient but larger shots are only 10 minutes drive away. The two double beds were very comfortable, the only negative is that the comfort of the two single beds was not great. Both showers were really good. The house is on a quiet cul de sac and the parking spaces were very convenient and large. This was our first time in Northumberland and I would definitely consider coming back to Sugar Sands again, especially if the sun is going to shine as much as it did during our week!
Perfect base to visit Northumberland, comfortable, spacious and clean. Garden enclosed so perfect for the dogs and it's nice and peaceful to sit outside with barely any noise . Will be booking again for next year.
Carole
All very Cheam and well stocked. I confess to bring disappointed initially as the house is on a housing estate. The impression is given that it is close to the sea but it's three quarters of an hour's walk away. With 2 small children and a disabled grandfather, this meant we had to take the car. And parking fees are now in place with an app which simply doesn't work.
Cleanliness was not satisfactory. Some floors were dirty , lots of dog hairs in the bathrooms, kitchen,, dining room and utility. Kitchen cupboard doors, fronts and handles very dirty kitchen floor sticky, inside cupboards not cleaned. We had to spend time vacuuming and cleaning on arrival. Central heating system was too difficult to operate when weather was cold.Fridge freezer was not working correctly,at its highest temperature the fridge was not cold enough and this was reported to the owner at the time.
Deborah
Excellent house, close to coast. Clean, well stocked with consumables and kitchen equipment. 2 parking spaces car by back gate, space for SUV in front of garage in courtyard. Lovely sofas telly a bit small...., comfortable beds, 2 bathrooms with instant hot water, handy down stairs loo, good wifi, books, dvds and location leaflets some a bit old..... Great Coop local 2 mins walk. Fabulous location for castles at Alnwick, Dunstanborough and Bamburgh, boat trip to Lindisfarne and Farne Islands, Howick gardens and beach coastal walks with dog. Recommended!
Beautiful property in a prime location for many beautiful beaches. Happy to be returning in September. Property has everything you need for a really comfortable stay.
Sugar Sands is a beautifully maintained modern house with everything provided for a relaxing holiday. A quiet location, easy parking and a pretty garden are bonuses.
We were a bit worried about staying at the property after reading some of the most recent reviews but we very much enjoyed our stay despite some very wet weather with flooding close by. The smart TV and gamesjigsaws provided came in very handy! The cottage is very well located with lots of lovely places to visit close by. We had no problems parking as there was ample room by the garage. There was plenty of space for two adults and two teens and pretty much everything we needed was provided. Our only grumble was the very firm mattresses, easily fixed with some toppers.
Darren
Great location and everything you need home from home. Just back garden light needs fixing as kept flashing and couldn't find a switch. Would be handy to have a bookguide of how things work, just a brief easy guide as we couldn't find the switch to the outside light and had to guess how to work the washer and dryer. As it is dog friendly where the nearest vets details are located with contact numbers, just in case of an emergency.
This property reminds us of holiday home standards of 20 or 30 years ago. Furniture not comfortable, mattress in serious need of replacing. Fridgefreezer not working properly, fridge not cold enough, freezer too cold. TV small by modern standards. Parking very difficult, probably OK for a smallmedium size car, but not a large car or SUV. Property needs some serious TLC inside and out.
Stephen
A nice property, very quiet location. With in easy reach of lots of places to visits. Well equipped although beds would benefit from a good matters topper.
Excellent place to stay, particularly with a dog as three beaches within 2 miles. Lots of lovely sandy beaches in this part of Northumberland, castles and places to visit aplenty. House very comfortable and could only be improved by installing a sink in utility. Owners very amenable. Handy Coop and lovely cafe in the village.
We had the most amazing stay at sugar sands, the cottage was really nice and spacious, we will definitely be back next year, our two chocolate labradors really loved the beaches, amazing time had by all. .
A very nice stay in this holiday home end October. Had everything needed for 4 adults and two grandchildren. Shame the weather was not brilliant but would be lovely earlier in the year.
Rachel
Lovely property, all the home comforts provided. Thanks for the welcome bottle of wine. So handy to the the coop and Running Fox cafe so very close. We found the neighbours were up very early before 6am .. presumably commuting to work, they werent noisy but unfortunately woke the dog up .. and hence woke us up !!
Jacqueline
Sugar sands is a modern house, spacious and very comfortable. Parking space behind house and in front of garage block so ideal. Nice private garden. Well equipped with everything you need. On a quiet estate in a lovely village with co op nearby and a cafe. Great walk to the beaches just over a mile away so its in a great location. Good access to roads to explore Northumberland . Fully recommend the house . Had a wonderful week here
Graham
This is a really great holiday cottage. Has all the facilities you need and a great base for exploring the Northumberland area. The cottage itself is very comfortable, well laid out and in a very quiet area of Longhoughton.
