River View Lodge Reviews

James
We really enjoyed our stay here; it's a perfect spot for a family break. The lodge was spotless when we arrived and had a lovely high-end feel, especially in the kitchen and bathroom. The views from the deck were stunningand relaxing in the hot tub while watching the aurora was unforgettable. The owner was super helpful, always just a message away with local dining tips. Overall, a peaceful, private place for a chilled family holiday - definitely recommend!
James
The climb is tough, but the stunning lodge and breathtaking views make it totally worth it!
Emma
Honestly, we had such a lovely stay here! The lodge itself is stunning, with every little detail thought of by the owners. It's kept spotless, the beds are super comfyand it's kept nice and warm - perfect for relaxing. The views are breathtaking, really calmingand we even caught a glimpse of the northern lights which was just incredible. At night, sitting in the hot tub gazing at the stars was such a treat. The only thing to keep in mind is the parking situation in the village, which isn't a big deal but can be a bit of a climb if you're not on your feet much. Andrew was so helpful, meeting us on arrival and helping with our bags. We'd definitely come back and highly recommend it!
Emily
We just wrapped up a fantastic week at River View Lodgeand honestly, it completely blew us away! The quality of the fixtures and fittings is top-notch-really good craftsmanship that you can tell has been done with care. No joke, the views from every spot, whether you're lounging in bed, chilling in the lounge, or soaking in the hot tub on the deck, are absolutely breathtaking. The owners, Andrew and Sarah, are super helpful too. As others mentioned, the lack of on-site parking isn't a biggie; Andrew kindly met us in the village, which is just a short walk awayand carried our stuff up. The village itself is charming, with two nice pubs that serve food only at weekends, but if you fancy more options, there are plenty of other pubs in nearby villages. Definitely try the Indian takeaway from Spice Valley - it's worth it! The surrounding area is stunning, with loads of walks right from the lodge and along the river. Coming back to that hot tub after a day out was pure bliss. Huge thanks to Andrew and Sarah for a memorable week. It's definitely five-star luxuryand we'd happily come back-especially for that dreamy bed!
James
Honestly, where do I start with River View Lodge? It's simply stunning! The peace and quiet here are just what we needed-so tranquil and luxurious. The setting is just breathtaking; it's definitely one of those places that makes you feel completely relaxed. We try to visit different spots each year, but this place might just change our plans because it's that good. We always insist that accommodation should be as good as or better than our homeand RVL hits the mark perfectly. When we arrived, Andrew seemed to think we were staying for ages-probably because we came well prepared, but his attention to detail is incredible. He's thought of everything, from the smallest touches to the big stuff. The fixtures, fittingsand overall finish are top-notch, honestly as good as it gets. The beds and bedding are pure luxury-so comfy! It's a real shame it's not on Grand Designs, I'd love to see how it was built. The local area is gorgeous, with plenty of lovely walks along the river, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers. And the little details did not go unnoticed-like how dog-friendly it is. There's hot and cold water to wash your dog, plus towels, shampooand all the bits you might need. We didn't want to leave, it really felt special. Definitely a 10/10 for us. We'll be back for sure!
Emma
We recently stayed at this lodge and honestly, it was a lovely experience. The setting is so peaceful, perched on a hill with stunning views over the river valley. Perfect for anyone who loves nature - we saw plenty of birds and even some red squirrels! The walk along the river and through the woodland was just gorgeousand with clear nights, we got to enjoy the owls and the starry sky. The whole place feels modern and luxurious, especially the floor-to-ceiling windows that let in so much light. The beds were super comfy, which made relaxing after our adventures even better. One thing to mention - there's no parking right at the property, but it's only a short walk into Allendale where parking is free and easy. Just a heads up, the walk up to the lodge is pretty steep, so if you have mobility issues, it might not be ideal. For everyone else, we'd definitely recommend it!
Emma
Despite the terrible weather we faced in July, we really enjoyed the area and plan to come back.
Jamie
Honestly, this place was a breath of fresh air. We're quite picky about where we stay, but couldn't find a fault here. Waking up to that stunning glass window view in the bedroom was just incredible. The owners have really thought of everythingand the village nearby is adorable with friendly locals. It feels like a hidden woodland retreat, super cosy and charming. I usually like to try new places, but we'll definitely be returning here again. It's just too perfect not to!
