Oystercatcher Reviews

Michele
We had a lovely time in the Oystercatcher, it is a real home from home. The house is easy to find, ideally located, well laid out and comfortable with everything you could need for a family holiday. The hosts have provided lots of information about the local area, with tips for families with dogs which was very much appreciated. As soon as we got home I booked again for next year, which is not something we normally do, but the house is so nice and the area has so much more to see and do next time that we are looking forward to visiting again.
Maureen
We stayed at the oyster catcher 4 years ago & we feel that the property is now looking very tired! It needs a make over I.e a lick of paint Showers & bathrooms need attention, not very clean & hygiene Not enough toilet rolls for 6 people , had to buy more The Henry vacuum cleaner dust bag was full to bursting! Otherwise a lovely house in a superb location
We loved our stay at The Oystercatcher, amazing property, ideal for our group, couldnt ask for anymore. Thanks for hosting us all
Great place , close to the beach and pubs. Sykes helped contact owner so 3 dogs allowed. Thanks again. House was well setup plenty of kitchen utensils and coffee machine Nespresso pods. Only niggle was cleaning as dust under sofas and cupboard, mouldy main shower. Could have done with rear outside light . Would definitely recommend and would book again even live there!
Oystercatcher is a spacious, extremely comfortable home away from home. Ideally located for coastal walks or visiting various seaside towns. The information provided by the owners was very useful, especially for dog owners with useful tips on whether places were dog friendly. We look forward to returning in the future.
A lovely property, with everything we needed and plenty of space for our family of 7. The beds were all very comfy and the downstairs living areas are modern and spacious. A great base for exploring Northumberland and lovely to be close to Embleton Beach about 20mins walk or a short drive.
Angela
Fabulous property in a great location. Wonderful garden much bigger than expected the photos dont do it justice. Great for dogs & grandchildren running around!
Catherine
The location of the property was perfect. It was well stocked with good quality kitchen equipment, pans etc. But it desperately needs a lick of paint and a deep clean. I spent the first two hours of my holiday cleaning, which I was not happy about after a five hour journey. There was a lot of dog hair about, piles of fluff and a previous visitors dirty socks under the bed and the kitchen floor was filthy. I sent photos to the contact number in the house manual, they did respond and apologise and said that someone would be in touch. 3 days later we came home to find a bottle of cheap wine on the doorstep. I had also contacted sykes to complain as we'd spent the money with them over 1200 but have yet to hear back from them. After 7 days it's unlikely they'll respond now. So all in all I don't think I'd book this property again or book with Sykes again. Northumberland is amazing though and we'd return to the area in a heartbeat.
Jacqueline
Very comfortable house perfect for our needs everything was of a good quality and it was a pleasure to stay in this lovely home.
Claire
Had a fantastic stay. Only a few things that could improve it. These were Better quality pillows. The ones provided were very lumpy. Would benefit from decorating updating. Hoover didnt pick up well and smelt when on. So unable to keep as clean as I would have liked. These were only small things and did not detract from a wonderful holiday. What an amazing property in a beautiful place
Alison
This is such a great house, the pictures don't do it justice. We were a bit concerned before we arrived that being 8 adults and a dog it might not be big enough but it was perfect. Good size bedrooms, two big lounges and a table big enough for us all to fit around. It snowed on our visit so we really liked the log burner as we curled up with a cuppa. The location is great, easy access to so many beautiful Northumberland beaches and the village itself. We would highly recommend this property.
Stephnie
Lovely holiday, great location in a wonderful house
Lovely cottage. Easy to walk to local facilities. Loads of room for 8 people to relax and enjoy the lovely Northumbrian coast.
Sorry for the delay we had a fabulous time at the cottage last week. Apologies about the general waste bin we took it out to the end of the road but they didn't empty. I even asked the neighbours if they'd been. Not sure what I did wrong just followed the instructions, but then had to bring it back in. Cottage on the other hand was so lovely we would like to stay again Excellent stay, comfy beds so loved the decor
What fantastic accomodation ,every consideration was thought of ,the children loved all the books and we managed only just to avoid the games consol ! ! This was our first visit to the north east and what a fantastic beach ,we were incredibly lucky to have excellent weather. The dogs were happy to explore the lovely garden. We had a trip out to the Farne Islands and our first siting of Puffins which made our week! The farm shop was well stocked with most if our needs and we had a nice meal at The Greys inn. Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely holiday home .
This was a beautiful house in a beautiful location. We had a great week here. It is within walking distance of the beach, pubs and shops but also provides easy access to lots of different places in the local area. A lovely holiday!
Well equipped property, plenty of cutlery and crockery! Well laid out and plenty of room for all. Enclosed back garden, which was great for the dog! Great location on the edge of the village with plenty of walks close by! Would definitely recommend and hope to return sometime soon!!
Ideal holiday home in a great location to explore the surrounding areas. Perfect enclosed garden to let the dogs out in the morning. The house was lovely and warm and provided lots of extra touches. We will be returning in the future.
We greatly enjoyed our stay, possibly the 6th or 7th time weve stayed here. The back of the house works really well for living and eating and the place was warm and very comfortable despite the rain and cold outside. There had been a couple of cleaning hiccups with three partly finished wine glasses on the floor beside the sofa and the microwave had obviously not been cleaned after its last use. These issues were easily remedied and did not change our view that this is a really good place to stay.
Alison
We've had another lovely stay in relaxing environment. The house is geared for families with children and the kids have loved it. looking forward to staying again in the future. BW
The cleaners need to look above eye level as the place has lots of cobwebs and dust. Needs wine glasses as only 2 in the property. Pillows need replacing as all of them are lumpy. The double bed in the front upstairs room has broken slats at the bottom of the bed. The downstairs double has no mattress cover and the mattress under the lose topper is very badly stained not nice at all. The property is comfortable but just needs some soft furnishings replaced and a deep clean to address these niggles. That said we had a great week A mirror would be useful in the twin room as no where to see to dry hair without using another room
The house was even better than the photos and description. We could not fault it at all! We had an amazing holiday and if you are thinking of visiting Northumberland then we would highly recommend staying at Oystercatcher.
Evelyn
Place was clean plenty of room to relax. Loved tge kitchen and sitting.area which we spent most of our time when I doors.garden well kept and great when the sun shined.nothing negative about the property .
Absolutely fantastic location, walking distance from the beach, shops and pubs and short drives to all of the costal towns. Lovely cosy house with everything you would need for your stay, including nice touches of wine, coffee pods and biscuits! Washing up liquid cloths gloves etc all provided along with other kitchen necessities which was really great. Lovely big garden with a great decking space and very quiet and private. Nice big social space downstairs with separate living area if needed, lots of CDs, games and books provided which was great. Only things to comment would be the decor could do with a refresh, lots of scuff marks, repainting in certain areas that are different colours to the original paint making it look tired, clean on the surface but needs a big deep clean. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, love the area and will definitely be holidaying in Northumberland again!
Sharon
We had a Fabulous stay to celebrate my 50th Birthday with family. House amazing. Perfectly situated for beach, pub and shops. Great social space for all the family. Photos dont do it justice. Would highly recommend.x
Oystercatcher is a beautiful home with all the facilities needed. Lovely and warm without the need to use the log burner. Bedrooms beautifully presented with two good bathrooms. A little bit further from the sea than expected but still easily reached. Embleton Bay absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend this property.
Really nice property and has everything that you need, really clean and had a large selection of dvds, books and cds to use. We used the chalk board to keep score of who won the games and plan out outer activities for the week. Good location for going off to explore, a brisk walk to the beach depending on how quick you walk. We drove up to Berwick and then got the train to Edinburgh for the day.
Excellent property in quiet location within newishly developed housing scheme. Provides very comfortable accommodation throughout and great communal space to the rear with level garden area. Well heated and insulated for a winter stay. Furniture in back lounge a little worn and beginning to fade. Otherwise all good. Overall, a lovely property. Great place for a familyfriends stay.
The property was lovely and just as described. The separate living room was perfect for a larger family. Great facilities, great location, well furnished and super comfy beds for a perfect sleep. Lots of extras including sound systems etc. The house is located on the edge of the village but there are walks to the coast just across the road. It wasn't garden weather but I would love to sit out in the summer. Our only issue was with the late checkin on a cold December day. We contacted Sykes by phone and then email and asked if we could have a slightly earlier check in because we had a two very young children with us. Sykes said it was not possible to even ask the owners and it was an insurance issue. I spoke to the owner while we were at the cottage and she said she could have liaised with the cleaning team to allow earlier access in the circumstances.
Elizabeth
We love both the property and the village, having stayed for the same week last year changing from booking with Airbnb locations previously. We have also booked again for next year. There were some problems this time that werent resolved despite mentioning them as soon as we arrived and regularly checking in to see whether they could be resolved. This was very disappointing and has made us less pleased with the stay overall. We were reassured they would be sorted for the next person so lets hope we dont have the same issues next year.
A lovely spacious, comfortable, clean holiday home, the pictures do not do it justice everything was perfect, especially the super soft towels. The location is ideal for visiting nearby stunning beaches and Alnwick Castle. There is also a nature reserve just over the road from the cottage for morning walks with your dog. We had a wonderful week at Oystercatcher and will definitely return in the future.
This is an excellent property, nicely presented, accurately described. The house is beautifully designed with really a good living area with wide access to well kept level back gardens. It has some wow moments, e.g. the Breton lighthouse picture in the front room and the blackboard wall in the kitchendiningliving area, used by children an adults in equal measure. The house was very well insulated an warm in all weather. Well be back .
Beautiful place ideal for walks close to all beaches and close to pubs
A wonderful wellequipped and maintained property in a fantastic part of the country. Well placed for the coast and countryside.
Lovely warm comfortable house with excellent facilities , good big garden for the grandchildren to play. The separate lounge provided a nice quiet retreat. Embleton itself was ideally situated to explore the Northumbria coastline plenty to do nearby for everyone.
Nice property that is spacious and well equipped. . Great location for exploring and for days where you dont want to get in the car theres plenty to see and do.
Richard
The house was lovely and well equipped with all essentials except hairdryer. It was warm and comfortable and beautifully decorated with some stunning features. Fantastic house in a fantastic location. We would all happily return.
