Longshore Reviews

Lovely house well equipped with everything you need and spacious, very close to all the village amenities
This is a gorgeous house, in a beautiful village. The house is light, airy and spacious. It's lovely and warm and inviting, with lashings of hot water for the power showers. It is beautifully decorated and furnished, although the furnishings are just beginning to show signs of the inevitable wear and tear. However, you've heard the saying 'spoil the ship for halfpence of tar'? Considering the house could easily accommodate 9 or more guests there are barely enough mugs cups to go around. There was one loo roll in each bathroom, the hand wash bottles had barely enough in them, and what there was had been diluted down and was from Lidl. They ask you to leave the place reasonably clean and tidy but we couldn't find a broom or brush & dustpan until we had spent a good while battling the rather odd metal cupboard you've really got to Want to do some cleaning. The welcome pack of teabags and cookies was a nice touch. Not so sure of the other box with 3 dishwasher tabs and a scouring pad! The courtyard can in no way be described as a garden as per the listing but is perfectly adequate for a glass of wine and a few minutes in the fresh air. We had asked via the Sykes call centre for one of the bedrooms to be made up as twin beds but it was left as a double. We coped, but less flexible guests might have struggled with that. In summary lovely house, decor, furnishings and overall cleanliness, but it was totally let down by the lack of loo rolls, mugs and watered down hand wash.
Great stay at Longshore. It is so close to the beaches and part of the Alnmouth village but away from the fairly busy Main Street, so is a quiet location too. The house was really clean and the facilities all good, only minor ask would be a washing up bowl in the kitchen sink so you can wash some items. There was a dishwasher of course too. One other thing that is worth noting for the owners, we had 4 starlings get into the kitchen down the stove pipe in the dining room must be a problem with the cap stopping birds getting in. It happened over 4 separate days sorry didnt get time to report that. The TV remote didnt work but was sorted same day we reported it and worked fine after that so really quick to deal with the problem. We loved our stay at Longshore so would definitely recommend Thanks you
We booked Longshore for a family holiday and it was ideal. Very useful to be able to have double beds converted into two singles for our teenage grandchildren. The house was clean and comfortable and we hope to return next year.
No toilet rolls apart from a couple of half used ones, no air fresheners, only one bottle of handwash. Not enough towels for a family of 12. Both showers need some kind of handrail, fortunately I'd brought a non slip mat for one of them. Slight degree of shabbiness as though someone had done a poor job of touching up paintwork here and there. Top bedroom at back has very low sloping roof difficult to get round double bed safely.
Alnmouth was a great location but house did not meet expectations. We had to get the letting agency colleague to remove 5 dead birds from the wood burner during our early part of the stay and I had to rescue 3 birds during the week, hearing them trapped was upsetting to the family. The house was not at a great standard of cleanliness on entering and small patio area is not in good condition and not fit for use in my opinion, it needs a good clean and weeds removed
Took my family here for a long weekend and we had the best time together. We made sure to pack things wed seen were in short supply in the reviews such as toilet paper and we brought our own handwash and washing up liquid but we will be back, it was so special, and the house was peaceful, beautiful, and so close to that amazing beach.
Lovely big light property. Very clean with everything we needed. Perfect location, a couple minutes walk to beach & village centre. Would love to stay there again.

The house suited us very well, in the town and near the beach. However there were a few issues. There was a leak at the bottom of the bathroom sink, None of the bathroom doors shut easily. There was 1 loo roll for each toilet. We resented having to buy more. Also only 3 dishwasher tablets for a 4 night stay. We had to wash up a couple of times. Nice coffee pot but no teapot. On the plus side, the beds were really comfortable and it was lovely and warm.
Olivia
Thank you for a great property and a great holiday. It had everything we needed for the perfect holiday.
We were planning to make a formal complaint about the parking permit situation. We asked for 2 permits. When the first car load arrived at the house Friday evening they found one indate permit. They phoned the emergency number to ask for a second permit and after a 15 minute wait for the call to be answered were told they needed the reference number for the property before anything could be done and the office closed at 7pm. This was about 6.30 and the our car was still en route with said reference number tucked somewhere in the luggage. We arrived just before 7pm and tried to phone but the office was now closed. Saturday morning we rang again and a helpful lady said she would contact the owner and get back to us, which she did. The owner had told her the permit was in a drawer in the hall unit. There was no such unit in the hall but we searched through the unit in the lounge where the first permit was found there was no second permit only old outofdate permits and letters chasing up Council Tax payments. We rang again an spoke to the same lady who said she would contact the owner again and get back to us. She never did. We tried another call on Monday morning but couldn't get through so made the decision to drive the car to the beach car park and pay to park for the day 3.50, rather than risk the constant niggle of receiving a fine. Our complaint is about the lack of concern on behalf of your agent and the owner. Even if the issue was not solvable at short notice a phone call back and apology would have been nice. It felt that the agent chose to believe the owner rather than us and it was left to us to find a solution. We loved the location of the house A friendly welcoming village too. Gadgets were all in working order. Nice modern bathrooms and everything spotlessly clean. A few items needed topping up more lightwieght mugsteaspoons the small bedroom lacked a table light and socket sink plug missing in one of the bathrooms a slip mat would be good in the walkin shower a bit more information about local services in the info folder, particularly bus services. The 2'6 beds were a little small for adults, were they intended for children? Hope these suggestions are helpful.
Perfect house to host a large family. Very close to the beach and by far the nicest, quaintest town we found on travelling the area.
Katherine
We had a fantastic holiday at Longshore. The house is well equipped and comfortable. It's a short walk to the beautiful beach and Alnmouth is a lovely village.
Debbie
Longshore is well located for the beach and exploring Northumberland. The street it is located on is peaceful and quiet. Parking is not great beside the property, it is tight and going to the beach park and leaving your vehicle there would probably be better. The house was very clean and light and airy with comfortable beds. All the basic amenities you need are here. There were only a few grizzles we had, as a house for 89 we were only given one bin bag I mean two wouldnt stretch the earth. There was no soap in any of the bathrooms Ive never stayed anywhere that does that not great from a sanitary perspective. Usually there are some basic ingredients in the cupboard salt and pepper in particular come on! I know that you can charge more in high season, but just short of 1000 for 2 nights stay when its self catering is overpriced. You could stay at catered accommodation eg a hotel for the same or less. Something to think about.
Brenda
On arrival blue bottle fly infestation which was problem for 2 days. Very few bedside lamps one was broken on arrival. Most concerning was no carbon monoxide in operation reported to NCCC and this was remedied. Dining table should have seated 9 people not possible. No recycling bin inside. Not enough mugs. Security issue was that the back gate does not lock and handle is not functioning properly. Generally poorly maintained.
Unfortunately when we arrived, there was only one parking permit in the property there should have been two. This took 5 days to sort out, during which time we had to find free parking as best we could. At the weekend, this was quite difficult. Additionally, the wifi in the property did not work, and this issue was not resolved before we left. We felt that the temporary solution of giving us access to a neighbouring property wifi was not really acceptable, although it was the only way of getting internet access.
William
Everything was perfect. It's a really nice, very comfortable house which can accommodate a large party and Alnmouth is a fantastic village.
Really good location with facilities nearby. The house was warm & comfortable and functioned well for our family. Considering the poor weather an entrance doormat for wet feet would be beneficial. Overall we would definitely consider another family holiday in this property.
Superb property, comfortable and clean. Any issues we had were dealt with very quickly and efficiently.

We had a lovely holiday exploring Northumbria and found Alnmouth a good base. Longshore was a comfortable property, but there were a few things that detracted from our stay in the house and really need addressing for future lets. there are quite a lot of weeds and moss at the entrance to the property, which makes it look untidy and not very welcoming I gashed my foot on a nail that was protruding through the floor board of one of the bedrooms, this was resolved quickly by Northumbrian Coast and Cottages, but nevertheless gave me a limp all week. My husband was given a parking ticket on Saturday morning at 7am as he had not put the parking permit on display when he arrived late on the Friday night. Parking restrictions do not start until 8am, so we have appealed it, but not something we want to do whilst on holiday. A warning in the welcome email would have been helpful to advise guests to put this on no matter the time. the shower tray does not drain quick enough. Only my mother in law used it after the first day as she couldn't get in the bath due to mobility issues. However she had to keep on turning it off to let it drain away during her shower. There was no mirror in the shower room, this was in two halves resting behind the sink. In the main bathroom the sink plug is broken and was left open. Although a little aggravating I didn't think it would cause us an issue until the toothpaste lid fell down it, I then spent 15 minutes trying the get it out of the plug, which I did manage, but this needs replacing. We spent some lovely time outside in the patio area, however some of the chairs were broken, and the rail by the steps is loose and a bit dangerous. The kitchen, whilst well equipped in some utensils, was very lacking in others. There are not enough mugs, knives and teaspoons. It could do with some more sharp knives, and I would have liked some small bowls or plastic bowlsplates for my two year old twins. The bowls were huge for children. Other things that would have been really useful would have been a fruit bowl, a butter dish, some serving dishes for the vegesalad etc. Also a dustpan and brush As a word of caution we had two starlings in the log burner. We managed to get them out without any problems, but I daresay other guests may not have managed. It needs a bird guard over the chimney. I'm sorry to write such a long feedback, but I couldn't see where else to send this as there is no contact email. Overall, we had a lovely stay, but for the price I think these things need sorting.
Robert
Could have been cleaner. Underneath the chairs in lounge was filthy. Kids hand prints all over windows and TV. Dirty skirting boards. Empty loo rolls left in toilet. Shower head in bathroom was broken so water comes out of the side rather than the holes. Cobwebs up high. We had to rescue two birds from the wood burner as there is no cowl on the chimney. Weve been to a property before in Alnmouth and both this and the other are maintained by Northumbria Cottages. The level of cleaning was poor with both. A mirror in the shower room was cracked, which we reported to Northumbria Cottages. They said they would contact us to sort but no one called or turned up. We were there two weeks. On a positive note, the house is great. Plenty of room, very comfy and ideally located for the beach. Its just lacking a utility room where you can put shoes and clean dogs after a day on the beach. If the house was cleaner it would get 5 stars all day long.
Had a brilliant stay. Know the area very well. House great for a family break. Beds and linens really good Could have done with more cooking serving dishes. Kitchen dishcloths and towels and possible soap powder dishwasher tablets to start off the rental. Ie one or two tablets. Stay with coquet cottages regularly and there is always an excelkent starter pack of food and kitchen essentials. , although appreciate this is expensive may be a nice addition couldnt find cot or high chair on arrival and staff very helpful
Heather
A fantastic location and a spacious house with comfy beds and lovely bathrooms. We loved the outside courtyard where we enjoyed meals when the sun was shining. We felt the property was missing a few things that wouldve made our stay at longshore perfect and those were a larger table in the kitchen the dining room was so dark and we wouldve liked to have eaten in the kitchen when raining outside, some more kitchen appliances eg wooden spoons, a dishwasher friendly chopping board for meat and a cafetire. The storage in the main bedrooms was also lacking in drawer space. We would definitely book longshore again but would love to see these added extras next time.
House was generally very dusty, front windows and TV covered in baby handprints and goo. Bloodstains on some of the bed linen. Range of pans for the amount of people not good,no measuring jug or coffee pot for fresh coffee. Bed not made up to two singles, but as luck had it one person could not come due to illness. Birds kept falling down the dining room chimney into the wood burne
Overall this was a great cottage in a great location but for the price we paid I would have expected a better equipped kitchen utensils and crockery and some maintenance tasks competed cable hanging out of wall above bathroom sink etc. The heating wasn't working on arrival but we were given a workaround within a day to get it working.
Lesley
Perfect! We'll be back!
We stayed over the Christmas period and had a really great time in Alnmouth and Longshore. The house was super clean on arrival and great to find the heating on at a nice temperature. We were a party of 9 so using all the space and never felt crowded throughout the stay, with a big cosy lounge. We made use of the open fire and dining area stove with fuel purchased opposite the railway station. Cooking Christmas dinner for 9 people was fine though a few more bowls would have been useful not enough proper dessert bowls for 9 people and there were only 6 mugs for teas and coffees. There were a couple of maintenance issues that we reported a blind and shower. To be really clear none of these things stopped us enjoying a really lovely house that felt very homely and worked for us at a lovely time of year in our favourite village. A great stay was had and the communications with Northumbria Cottages were really great before and during the stay.
We cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone thinking of booking it. Loads of space, clean and warm and in the heart of Alnmouth. Two parking permits and space nearby if you have more cars. we are looking to book next year
Stayed here, 8 adults in 2 families. Lovely period house in the centre of Alnmouth. Lots of space and property nicely furnished and everything we needed for our week away. Nice private courtyard to the rear ideal for our evenings in. Would highly recommend this property for larger familiesgroups and Northumberland cottages were excellent in their communications.
Perfect location just moments from the most beautiful beach. Very clean and well appointed house. Would definitely stay again.
This is a newly refurbished property situated 2 minutes from the beach and riverside. It is finished to a high standard and the rooms are large and airy, in particular the bright sunny kitchen to the rear, which also leads out to a small private courtyard with tables and chairs. This is a great family holiday home.
