Dodds Nook Reviews

We liked the house and its situation. However we were unable to adjust the shower temperature from much too hot, and although this was reported early on to the company the only number we had, we received no meaningful response and no effective action or follow up, so that the shower was effectively unusable for the week. This is not acceptable. The listing should state that although the house is dog friendly, guests are asked to toilet their dogs away from the premises and the lane. This is inconvenient especially when a dog is of limited mobility as ours is.

Lovely cosy cottage in a great location. Smaller downstairs than expected but we had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend and would return.

Situated in a quiet spot, but just a minutes walk to town and amenities the cottage makes a great base from which to explore Alnwick and the surrounding areas, which are all extremely dog friendly. Warm, welcoming and well equipped with comfy bed the stairs are not as steep as expected and we had no problem with parking, which is just around the corner. Perfect for a couple and dog! book with confidence we hope to return in 2026.

A perfect Boly Hole for discovering Northumberland. Dodds Nook is well maintained and comfortable. We appreciated the 'extra's' tea & coffee, biscuits, & dog biscuits. A parking permit is provided for a small car park nearby, and a Northumberland Council parking disc, which saved on parking. Many CP's are free though. Alnwick is a lovely town and was the perfect base. Dodd's Nook was very central and a very short walk to the main street where we found plenty of places to eat.

It was a lovely cottage in the perfect area. Close to some lovely shops. The only thing I could mention is there is no greenery for the dogs close to the property so it was impossible to let the dogs out early in the morning or late at night, without having to get dressed and drive to a park. Apart from that, it was perfect. Thank you, we really enjoyed it.

This is the second time that we have stayed at Dodd Nook, and had been looking forward to a comfortable holiday. However, I would like to draw your attention to the following 1. On arrival we found dirty cups in the cupboard and dirty cutlery in the draw. these had clearly not washed up properly. 2. Some of the crockery was chipped. 3.There was a dirty towel left in the bathroom with some dubious stains on. 4. The welcoming bunch of flowers were dead, and the loaf of bread out of date. 5. The floor under the table was was dirty with crumbs and dog's hair. 6. Only 1 tablet for the dishwasher had been left, and insufficient alternative washingup cloths provided. 7. The settee was worn with potential holes covered over with a throw. We were quite happy with the upstairs of the property. Although the cottage was comfortable, I do feel that with a little more attention to detail, a good holiday would have been great ! We have booked cottages through Sykes on many occasions, and have not always found the cottages to be in satisfactory condition. I am unsure whether we will do so again.

Very comfortable and nice welcome pack. But only one spare toilet roll had to buy more annoying as we had to bring spares back in already full cases on the train, soap dispenser in bathroom empty and limited number of dishwasher tablets.

A lovely cottage in a fantastic location. Well set up cottage, plenty of room and very comfortable. Great location a couple of minutes stroll from the centre of Alnwick so everything virtually on your doorstep, but far enough away that you very rarely hear any noise. Lovely little outside seating area for a glass of wine of an evening watching the bats flying around between the buildings. Perfect location for exploring both the coast and inland. Parking, whilst not immediately outside the property, is no problem, just around the corner less then a minute away. Space always available and a residents parking permit provided.

Quirky and comfortable accommodation. A fiveminute walk to the centre where there are good restaurants. Parking very near by and always available. Directions to the property are of a low quality.

Dodds Nook is a lovely little property situated literally within a minutes walk of the centre of Alnwick, but nevertheless a quiet retreat. As just two people with one knee high dog it was plenty big enough for us for the few days we stayed there, but for the maximum of 4 people and 2 dogs it would be a squeeze I think. Having said this the cottage interior is modern, clean, comfortable and very well kept and any comments, concerns or suggestions written into the maintenance book by previous visitors had been noted and attended to, so I have no doubt that the couple of comments on minor things that I left will also be treated in the same way. Overall a very pleasant stay for both us and our dog, and we would happily return in future.

It was a beautiful property for me and boyfriend. The house was cosy and perfect for a weekend getaway. The second bedroom is probably a little small for two people but this bother us as we didnt use it. Location is great and overall felt like a home away from home

Well equipped kitchen and a nice hamper on arrival. It is a bit snug for 4 adults, we went as a couple and had a couple of friends stay for a night but would be perfect for 2 or 3

The property is lovely and well situated but we found it very cramped downstairs for 4 adults 2 people actually went home after 2 nights. During the winter we expect to spend more time at the cottage and it just wasnt comfortable for 4 to relax on an evening . I also feel the description of courtyard with furniture is misleading as it is more of a walkway . The beds were very comfortable as was the settee. Disappointing Christmas decorations and poor welcome hamper one loaf of bread ! despite reading comments about the wonderful welcome packs previous guests had received especially difficult to swallow given we had paid a premium price for new year. The bathroom requires an extractor fan as it was too cold to open the window and when four people have showered there is a lot of condensation. Diffusers are a nice touch but all were empty! Internet did not work all week. Whilst furnishings etc are good and there are plenty of kitchen utensils plates etc I found the lack of attention to detail and care disappointing! Not the level I expect of a 4 Sykes cottage.
